Ch. 6: And I Can Finally See

Atlanta was listening to her MP3 Player in her room while she was reading 'Hello!'
magazine, on of Theresa's favourites. But then again, most magazines were Theresa's
favourites.
'No,' she thought hastily. 'You are mad at Theresa and you can't be reminded of her.'
But Atlanta missed having someone quiz her on which butt goes to which guy celebrity.
Theresa was a butt genius and they knew it. Atlanta put down the magazine and turned up
the volume to her MP3 Player. She was listening to 'Girlfriend' by Avril Lavigne.

Hey! Hey! You! You!
I don't like your girlfriend!
No way! No way!
I think you need a new one
Hey! Hey! You! You!
I could be your girlfriend

Good beat, nice rhythm...

Hey! Hey! You! You!
I know that you like me
No way! No way!
No it's not a secret
Hey! Hey! You! You!
I want to be your girlfriend

Okay, it's not reminding me of Archie...

You're so fine
I want you to be mine
You're so delicious
I think about you all the time
You're so addictive
Don't you know
What I can do
To make you feel alright
(alright alright alright)

He is always so cocky though, but that is why I like him...

Don't pretend
I think you know
I'm damn precious
And hell yeah
I'm the mother fucking princess
I can tell you like me too
And you know I'm right
(I'm right I'm right I'm right

Oh shit.

She's like so whatever
You could do so much better
I think we should get together now
And that's what ever-

'No way, no way. Different song. Now, what is there?' Atlanta thought hastily, cutting the song off. 'Ah,' she continued. 'here we go. A good song: 'Things I'll never Say' by Avril.'

I'm tugging at my hair
I'm pulling at my clothes
I'm trying to keep my cool
I know it shows
I'm staring at my feet
My checks are turning red
I'm searching for the words inside my head

Nothing yet...more or less.

(Cause) I'm feeling nervous
Trying to be so perfect
Cause I know you're worth it
You're worth it
Yeah

Well, I do always feel pretty nervous around him...

If I could say what I want to say
I'd say I wanna blow you... away
Be with you every night
Am I squeezing you too tight
If I could say what I want to see
I want to see you go down
On one knee
Marry me today
Yes, I'm wishing my life away
With these things I'll never sa-

'Why am I feeling these things I'll never say?' Atlanta thought, pulling at her hair. 'He is my best friend. I go running with him, not on dates! Theresa always told me that we'd be such a perfect couple and she's usually right about these kinds of things, although that might be because she's psychic.' She ran her hands through her spiky red hair and flipped through songs on her MP3 Player until she found one from Kelly Clarkson, one that really described her life; Miss Independent.

Miss independent
Miss self-sufficient
Miss keep your distance, mmmm

'That is so me.

Miss unafraid
Miss out of my way
Miss don't let a man interfere, no

Oh, most definitely.

Miss on her own
Miss almost grown
Miss never let a man help her off her throne

Men are not a big use in my life.'

So, by keeping her heart protected
She'll never, ever feel rejected
Little miss apprehensive
Said ooh, she fell in love

Atlanta bit her lower lip.

What is this feeling taking over?
Thinking no one could open the door
Surprise, it's time, to feel what's real
What happened to miss independent's no longer need to be defensive?
Goodbye, old you, when love, is true

'He's my best friend! I'm not supposed to feel this way about him.

Misguided heart
Miss Play it smart
Miss if you wanna use that line, you better not start, no

There we go, back to somewhat normal.

But she miscalculated
She didn't wanna end up jaded
And this miss decided not to miss out on true love

No, no this isn't happening...

So, by changing a misconception
She went in a new direction
And found inside, she felt a connection
She fell in love

Crap.

What is this feeling taking over?
Thinking no one could open the door
Surprise, it's time, to feel what's real
What happened to miss independent's no longer need to be defensive?
Goodbye, old you, when love, is true (when love, is true)

He is my best friend! I'm not supposed to be feeling this way about Archie.'

When miss independent walked away
No time for love that came her way
She looked in the mirror and thought today
What happened to miss no longer afraid?
It took some time for her to see
How beautiful love could truly be
No more talk of why can't that be me
I'm so glad I've finally seen

Atlanta sighed and opened her door to find an empty hallway. She crept downstairs, not wanting to bother anyone to get a glass of water from the fridge. She didn't hear his footsteps approaching her.

What is this feeling taking over?
Thinking no one could open the door
Surprise, it's time, to feel what's real
What happened to miss independent's no longer need to be defensive?
Goodbye, old you, when love, is true (when love, is true)

'He is my best friend and he should understand. But he also might freak out if I tell him that I like him.'

Miss independent.

'Ahh!'
'Ahh!'
They screamed, well, Atlanta screamed and Archie yelled. Atlanta almost dropped her glass of water but instead spilled it all over her and Archie.
'Oh my god, Archie. You scared me half to death. Don't do that.'
Archie grimanced like he had just swallowed ink and wiped the cold water off of his face and Atlanta giggled.
'Sorry,' Atlanta covered her mouth with her hand so as to not show her grin as she reached for a cloth to help Archie.
'Here.' She said as she handed him the cloth.
'S'okay.' Archie said, accepting the dry cloth.
Neither spoke for what felt like an eternity, but both thinking the same thoughts, or, more like thought.
'Atlanta,' Archie started, not daring to look into her eyes. 'Can I tell you something?'
'Sure, Arch.' Atlanta replied, blushing madly.
'Atlanta, I think like you-'
'I like you too, Arch. Sure you can be a bit cocky at times but-' Archie cut her off before she started blabbing.
'No, Atlanta,' Archie said shyly, at last looking into her eyes. 'I think I like you, a lot. I think I love you, Atlanta.'
This was the moment she was waiting for. She was beginning to hyperventilate but pinched herself in the thigh to stop. They stared at each other for a while until Archie finally sighed and started to rub the back of his neck like crazy.
'No, of course. That's right don't answer. That was a completely stupid move to make. Stupid Archie, stupid, stupid, stupid-'
Atlanta was the one to cut Archie off this time. She leaped in for a kiss and threw her arms around Archie's neck. He was in a moment of shock for a few seconds but then came to his senses and curled his arms around her waist. On Atlanta's MP3 Player, the song 'Why Can't We Be Friends' by Smash Mouth was playing loudly.
