Long, Cold Winter, Ch. 3
One Week Later
Ok. I have just come to the realization that this band is nuts. I can't, for the life of me, figure out why we are doing this, but we are. We are actually sledding! I thought this was only for kids. Wait. Let me think about that. We all still pretty young yet. Yeah, I've decided. We're still kids!
I glance to my left and see Jeff sledding down the hill on his blow up tube. I thought those things were only used in the water? Fred is right behind him, NOT using his sled this time. I keep watching as Fred crashes right into Jeff, then bursts out laughing. I chuckle before taking a running start and landing on my sled, stomach first. I slide over this mound of snow, somehow manage to fall off the sled and land face first in the snow. I lift my head to hear Eric laughing.
"That was so classy, Tom!" he laughed.
I flipped him the finger before laughing myself. I finally gain control of myself and stand up, wiping my face off. My face is now frozen, by the way. I see Eric walking towards me.
"That was good, man!" he said, still chuckling.
"I planned it like that" I replied, sounding confident.
"Sure you did" he replied, with a wink.
I gave him a friendly glare, before I started chasing him. He screamed like a girl and took off running. Now you know why we call Eric our "Barbie Doll". He acts like her. I had just caught up to Eric, when he fell down, rolled over onto his back and started making snow angels. I stopped where he was, leaned over, placing my hands on my knees and caught my breath.
"God, I feel like an idiot," I said, smiling.
"Yeah, but it's fun being one!" I heard Fred shout from behind me. I glanced back to see him doing summersaults in the snow. Man, we are all going to end up sick from this. Yeah, I can hear it now. All of us, coughing, sneezing and our manager, Larry, basically throwing a fit! Nah! He's really a great guy. Treats us like his own kids.
Uh, I'd better rethink that one. Actually, I think the other guys handle colds pretty well. Me? I get the slightest pain and I'm acting like a baby. You wouldn't know it though. I finally straighten myself up. Glancing down, I notice that Eric has stopped making his angel and is just lying there.
"What are you doing?" I ask.
"Oh, just seeing if I can make shapes out of the clouds."
"What?" I giggle, before lying down next to him. Don't ask me why I did that. I don't have a fucking clue.
"See? Like that elephant," He pointed it out to me.
I glanced up and sure enough, there was an elephant. I couldn't help but smile. This is the life. Granted, I wish it was warmer, but what the hell.
