Only a Real Love
15 reviewsTime is just a man-made measurement. Time changes everything. What you are always affects who you are. Sometimes you lose the most important things because of them. Short Patrick Story.
5Moving
The street lights lit up the streets of his hometown as he made his way home. It was so great to see his family and have them there but, he was not in the mood to fake the smile and continue through the night. Pete was playing a DJ set at Debonair in Chicago but he had decided to just make his way to his house in Glenview. Today was the day for lovers and he didn't have one. Nor did he want to be around anyone who was happily in love.
Parking his car in his driveway, Patrick took out his keys and went to go inside. This house had so many memories inside, even just the house itself was a memory. When Fall Out Boy got to a place where he could buy a home he wanted it to be in Glenview. It was where he grew up, where his family was and where he met Michele. She had actually went with him to find a house, and even helped him decorate. They had discussed that the four bedroom house would be amazing when they decided to have a family. They had built dreams in that house. That was the depressing part now. Their dreams almost had come true, they almost did have a family.
Just as he was putting away his coat, he heard a slight knock and wanted to ignore it. He didn't want the guys to drag him to this after party. He did not want to be around anyone and Patrick just wished everyone would respect him. Contemplating his speech, he walked over to the door to answer it. He had barely walked into this house and they were already knocking on his door. They all had to deal with Pete and his many moods almost every single day, but now Patrick wanted to be left alone and the guys had consistently checked up on him, and asked if he needed anything. Patrick appreciated their concern, he just wanted them to stop.
"Michele, I really don't want to do this now, okay? I'm tired and just want be left alone.. so just go. There is no need to go through this again" He hated how she did this. Why did she just always show up when he was trying to forget about her? Why did she have to torment his heart like she did? They were over, why couldn't Michele just forget he existed?
She shook her head as she looked him over. "Please Patrick" Michele almost begged him. She lowered her head almost in shame, as her hands were stuffed into her coat.
He sighed and allowed her in . Closing the door, Patrick took a deep breath and rubbed his face. He hadn't slept enough or had a clear head to do this but he didn't have the heart to just slam the door on her face either. Following her into the living room he waited for her to begin.
"I'm sorry" Michele had started off. She wanted to say so much but those were the first ones that managed to escape her lips and confused mind. Michele had spent the past few hours trying to figure out what exactly she would say or do but, now whatever she had come up with had left all consciousness.
"Sorry?" He laughed at the absurdity. "What exactly are YOU sorry for Michele? Sorry for just showing up on my doorstep, sorry for leaving me, or sorry for ruining my life?"
"can you stop yelling at me for one minute and let me talk?" Michele looked up at him with fire in her eyes. She was so tired of him snapping at her. Did he forget this wasn't easy for her either? She had feelings and a heart she had to deal with, and his attitude was not going to help. "damn it Patrick, I can't do this, I can't!"
Inhaling deeply he decided to put his pride aside for a moment and listen to her. If she felt the need to come to him then it was probably important. "I'm sorry" he looked at her concerned "What can't you do?"
She gently bit her bottom lip as she tried to relax. "I..I can't live without you anymore" Michele shook her head as she slowly looked into his eyes "I don't/ want/ to live without you anymore." her eyes became glassy as she finally confessed. "Its too hard Patrick"
His heart started to beat faster and almost crumble at the same time. He always wanted to think she was miserable with out him, but never wanted to know she was. At the end of the day this was the woman he loved and he knew he had hurt her enough while they were together she wasn't supposed to still be hurting after they broke up.
"I don't know how to go through each day without thinking about you, or wondering how you're doing. Every night I hold the phone and hope just maybe you'll call just to hear my voice like I miss yours. No matter what I'm doing I can't help but to think about what you're doing. Everything reminds me of you, or us or something we did. I miss you" her bottom lip quivered as her face was now wet from the steady stream of tears she was constantly wiping away. She was still suffocated in her coat, hands around herself protectively.
"But.. You broke up with me. This was what you wanted Michele."He swallowed hard. This was so much to take in, so much to understand. He had spent the past month trying to accept that they were no longer together for her just to tell him everything he wanted to hear. It was almost like his memories, the ones where they were perfect and happy. " I just wanted to finally do something right by you and give you what you wanted."
Michele shook her head "No Patrick, I thought it was what I had to do. I lost so much. I just felt so alone and confused. I didn't know what to do so I just shut down and tried to run away but it just made it all worse because I lost more of myself."
"You had never lost me" he argued. Patrick always had to be stubborn and not accept what she was saying. He had to argue it, he had to figure out where this all came from. How did she walk out on him a week ago and then want him back now? There was no way a person's heart could change so drastically. There was no way she could want him back after how badly he had hurt her. Patrick accepted that.
"Yess! I did lose you Patrick!" she sat down on his couch and buried her face in her hands. She was trying to calm herself down. "when you were recording the album, or you went on tour.. I don't know. But, you stopped wanting to call me just to talk or be home with me as much as you could" Michele looked at her. Her normal bright eyes were dull and blood shot from crying and lack of sleep. She had similar rings around her eyes that he had around his. She had lost her glow and vibrance. The Michele he had been with for years was not the one desperately sitting in his living room. "We lost what was special in our relationship, and then I lost our baby" the words physically pained her as she barely spoke them. "So I ran away and came back to Chicago but then I just was lost and alone, I had nothing, I tried focusing on going back to school or getting a better job but.. none of it mattered without you." she wiped her face again taking a sharp breath in. Her heart had been racing. "I've been so confused and depressed. I miss you, I miss you soo much Patrick." Michele looked up at him.
He slowly moved to sit across from her on the couch, his own emotions surfacing and confusing him. The last thing he needed was to get with her now just for it all to fall apart again, to go through the pain and emptiness again. He couldn't just hand her his tattered heart to get it back more bruised and broken if it didn't work out. "I've missed you too" Patrick confessed as he reached out and gently wiped the tears from her face. He couldn't help but feel guilty for putting them there in the first place.
Michele lifted her hand up and held his, closing her eyes she leaned into it. The touch against her skin was nearly sending shocks to her heart. This is what she had been missing, the part of her soul that was in him. The touch of the man she loved that made her feel more alive than anything. "I'm sorry" she whispered closing her eyes tightly. "I'm so sorry" she broke down. The guilt of everything inside of her erupting in such uninhabited emotions.
"no no no noo.." Patrick shook his head. Moving closer to her he gazed over her beautiful face. She had no reason to feel so empty or distraught. Michele was an amazing woman, his amazing woman. "You, you have nothing to be sorry about. You have dealt with so much and I should have been there for you. I should be the man you deserve. The one who is listening and protecting you and showing you how great and beautiful and.."
"I love you" Michele cut him off.
Patrick couldn't help but smile as he heard her say the words. It was so much more than words she wrote, or words they said. They were feelings, they were actions, they were real. He gently bit his bottom lip and nodded "I love you more.."
"You do?" she smiled as she let go of the breath she had been holding in. "I've missed and needed you soo much. You were soo amazing tonight at The Metro. Patrick. I swear, there is nothing in this world that could compare to what you've given to me. You are my heart, my love, my everything. I need nothing but you, I want nothing but you, because everything in the world means nothing without you with me. Please lets build our future together."
Patrick nodded and kissed her. Lightly at first as her eyes almost instantly were brightened again. It was just amazing to know she was at the show, she was supporting him. Michele would always be there for him. "Forever marshmallow. We'll be together forever."
This is what you so badly want in life. A person that you realize means more to you than yourself. A love so strong, so beautiful and pure that life seems not worth living without the other. The significance of their heart is the completeness of yours. You will know you have that when every moment of your life becomes a memory, a smell, a dream, a smile only because of what that other person means to you. Only a real love.
The End
