Desi and Bob were first to arrive at the base. Desi had her arms around Bob's neck, and Bob had his arms around her waist. The two were both crying; saying good-bye was their weakness. Bob pulled Desi into a close embrace and she clenched onto the back of his bomber jacket.
"I have something for you," Bob announced.
Bob and Desi pulled out of their tight embrace. Bob reached for a small white rose in his inner coat pocket. Desi smiled and softly kissed Bob on the lips as she accepted the rose. She then took off her silk scarf and placed it around his neck. They then shared another kiss.
Next to arrive was Ray. He was followed by Gerard and Holly, Mikey, and Lindsey, and Frank and Erin. Each couple were holding hands and slowly walking towards the crowds of other sobbing people.
"Well looks like Frankie's gotta go," said Frank.
Erin shook her head and held on tight to her boyfriend. The smell of the leather on Frank's bomber jacket made Erin breakdown into tears. She didn't want to ever leave her boyfriend. He was so special to her and Frank was crazy about Erin. The two shared a long, passionate, and innocent kiss. They usually don't express their love in-front of Erin's brothers, but right now, that didn't even matter.
Gerard and Holly placed their foreheads together and they had each others' arms around one another's waists. Holly leaned in for a kiss and Gerard granted her request. He then wrapped his arms around her shoulders and was holding his girlfriend in a tight embrace.
"I will come back for you," Gerard whispered, into Holly's ear.
Mikey and Lindsey were holding each other's hands and facing one another. Mikey wiped a few tears away from Lindsey's cheeks and held her close.
"Will you be safe??" Lindsey asked, her boyfriend.
He nodded. As his glasses started to fog up from the tears streaming down his face from his eyes, he dipped his girlfriend back into his arms. He then placed a passionate kiss on her lips.
Erin walked over to her big brother, Gerard, and tapped him on the shoulder.
"Lieutenant Way," Erin said.
Gerard turned around only to see is baby sister, with tears in her eyes.
"Hello Lieutenant Way," he replied.
"You ready for this??" Erin asked.
Gerard took a deep breath and replied, "To tell you the honest truth....I'm scared to death."
"I know what you mean. Having you, Mikey, and Frankie go off to war is like a nightmare," Erin said.
She stopped. Took a deep breath and felt new tears form from her eyes.
"Ohh Erin, we're going to be fine. Trust me. I'm your big brother. We'll be ok," Gerard promised, his baby sister.
