Casey sat across from Dolly in her office, looking at her hands, that were folded on her lap. She couldn’t bring herself to look up at Dolly, even as the older woman looked at her, waiting for her to tell her why she was so shaken today, when just two days ago she was smiling. Casey swallowed hard as tears slowly welled up in her eyes.

“Cas, you know at one point you’re going to have to look up at me and tell me what’s going on,” Dolly said as she looked at the girl that was like a daughter to her. “Something is wrong and I want to know what’s got you upset.”

Casey looked up at her, the welled up tears showing as a thick, watering line glistening in the light of the office. “It’s hard to say Dolly. I’m scared here. You know I clam up when I’m scared...” She looked down at Dolly stood up and made her way over to her, sitting in the chair next to her. She wiped her eyes and sniffled as Dolly reached over and rubbed a comforting hand over her back.

“Casey, you have to open up if you want my help,” Dolly said softly, betraying her tough dog image. “If I don’t know what’s wrong...” She brought her hand up, rubbing the back of Casey’s neck, which was exposed since her curly hair was up in a messy bun.

Nodding slowly, Casey looked up at Dolly. “You already know that Pete and I... You know...” When Dolly nodded, Casey looked down, wiping her eyes again. “We didn’t use any protection... And I know it’s too early for me to tell if I am pregnant or not, but I’m just scared.”

Dolly frowned and rubbed Casey’s back. “You’ll have a job until you can’t work anymore Cas. And when you come back you’ll have one then...” When Casey shook her head and wiped away a tear that escaped, Dolly frowned. “You don’t want it?”

“Oh no Dolly, it’s not that,” Casey said, looking up at Dolly. “I do want my job, I love my job. I wouldn’t leave it for good until the place burned down... But that’s not what’s wrong...”

“Talk to me Casey, what’s got you so scared?”

Casey looked down before the memory made her bury her face in her hands to keep from sobbing. She cried softly into her cupped hands as Dolly kept rubbing her back. “Pete,” she managed to get out before she whimpered and started crying again.

“That little fucker didn’t leave you, did he?” Dolly demanded, already about to kick the little punk’s ass.

Casey shook her head violently as she looked up at Dolly. “No, he didn’t. But his reaction was pure terror Dolly. He was so afraid of this,” she said as she wiped her eyes, mentally begging the tears to stop falling. It was only making her feel worse. “He was scared to death by the thought of a kid possibly being on the way.”

“He should have thought about that before he stuck it in,” Dolly growled, frustrated that the girl that was like a daughter to her, was going through so much.

“Dolly, neither of us thought about it,” Casey said, sniffling as she looked up at the older woman. “So don’t attack him for something I played part in. It’s not like this was rape,” she said softly as Dolly pulled her closer and let her lay her head on a broad shoulder. “I just don’t know what to think about his reaction. I mean, I can see why he’s scared. A baby being on the way when they have a tour coming up, plus, oh Gods Dolly, what if the paparazzi choose now to start getting pictures of Pete and I?”

Dolly sighed and got up, going to her desk. “Casey... I know this isn’t the best time for this,” she said as she opened a drawer and took out one of the tabloids that circulated in the store. “But I really think you should see this.”

Casey’s face paled as she watched Dolly flip through the pages until she folded one side under the other and laid it down on the desk, in front of Casey. She frowned, her eyes watering more as she looked at the article that was on the page, staring up at her face. “Wh-What?”

Pete sighed as Patrick and Andy both rubbed a side of his back, both exchanging looks at each other over Pete’s bent over form. He had his head in his hands, but he wasn’t crying, but he was stressed as Hell. He had the possibility of Casey being pregnant on his shoulders, he had recording the rest of this album on his shoulders, and now he had the record company and Public Relations breathing down his neck. This was definitely not a good week for him.

“Pete, is there anything you want to eat, maybe a drink?” Joe asked, looking at his friend that was bent over on the couch with Andy and Patrick on each side of him.

Pete slightly shook his head.

Patrick and Joe frowned at each other, not knowing what to do about Pete and his retraction from everyone. They had been happy when they managed to drag him out of his room at his parent’s home and get him over to Joe’s place. But now he had withdrawn further, and they were having trouble getting to him. All they knew was it was something to do with Casey, but that was as much as they could get out of him before he fully clammed up.

Andy brought his hand up from Pete’s back and rubbed the back of his friend’s head, frowning slightly when Pete turned and curled into Patrick. Andy and Patrick locked gazes and shook their heads as Pete practically curled up in his friend’s lap, earning a slight look from Joe, who cleared it, remembering Pete did that anytime he was having serious problems. Besides, Patrick didn’t love Pete in the romantic way.

Patrick ran his fingers through Pete’s hair as his other hand rubbed along his friend’s spine. “Pete, we need you to open back up to us,” he whispered near Pete’s ear. He looked at Andy and lifted a brow to Joe’s porch, and Andy nodded as he got up and lead Joe outside.

“What’s going on?” Joe asked as Andy shut the door once both were out on the porch.

“Patrick needs to be alone with him,” Andy answered and sighed as he leaned against the railing. “You know Pete will only open up to him if they’re alone. It’s always been that way.”

Joe nodded and leaned on the railing next to Andy, looking up at the sky, watching the clouds.

Inside, Patrick softly stroked Pete’s hair and back as his friend finally loosened and melted against him, a sign he was already getting through to him now that Pete wasn’t surrounded by people. He never knew why Pete would only open to him and him alone, but he wouldn’t question it, not when Pete was so hard to open up. He rested his forehead against the top of Pete’s head. “Come on Pete,” he whispered, rocking him slowly. “It’s just me and you now. They’re not here anymore. Look around...”

Sure enough he felt Pete turn his head slightly and he could picture Pete’s eyes roaming the room to see that they were indeed alone. “Patrick...” He whispered, snuggling his face under his friend’s neck.

Patrick stopped rocking him and kept rubbing his back. “I’m here Pete...” Pete clung to Patrick’s shirt and whispered to him what was with him and Casey. Patrick frowned and rubbed his friends back in slow circles. No wonder he’s so scared...
