Prologue
Safe and sound....
Alison woke up in pain as she did every night. She gingerly sat up in the bed and reached to the bedside table for a glass of water. When it was not there she called out for her nurse.
"Erin!" Alison yelled.
"Yes?" The nurse said as she came around the corner.
"I need some water."
The nurse came back with a glass of water and set it on the bed side table. How is your pain?"
"Same as usual. I'll be fine."
"Now that is not what the doctor would want to hear. I'm under orders to make sure you are free of pain." The nurse reached into the beside table drawer and opened a pill bottle. "Take your pill, Hon."
Alison took the pill from her and downed it with the water. Erin helped her back into bed. Alison closed her eyes and felt the pill take effect. She fell back into a deep sleep.
