Irene watched as her granddaughter slept soundly in the bed near hers. It had taken two PM pills and a muscle relaxer to knock the poor girl out after the event that happened during the evening. Irene couldn’t believe what Mary was doing, obviously not caring how it affected Casey. She didn’t understand how a mother could even do this to her child. She should have known better than to start dating Jeffrey again after what he did, but it was apparent, yet sadly true, that Mary didn’t care that it had sent poor Casey into a panic attack.

Irene had nearly thrown her coffee mug at his head when he moved to hug her, but stopped when she saw Casey needed her more than he needed a lump on the head.

She looked at her clock, seeing that only a couple hours had passed and it was still early in the morning. She sighed softly and got up from the bed, taking Casey’s phone from her charger, and went into the living room.

Later that day, well into the afternoon, Casey woke with a start when she peeked open her eyes to see a set of yellow-orange eyes staring into her own. She put a hand to her chest as she stared at Irene’s cat Bear. “Would you not scare me?” She breathed out as she raked a shaky hand through the cat’s semi-thick fur, drawing out a loud meow. She looked over to Irene’s bed to see it empty, and that was when she realized she could smell the aroma of her grandmother’s coffee. She smiled slightly as she softly rubbed behind Bear’s ear before she leaned over the edge of the bed and grabbed her cell off of it’s charger.

She looked at the outer screen and saw she had three missed text messages. Opening her phone she looked at the screen and saw she also had three missed calls and one voicemail. She opened the first message, and smiled slightly when she saw it was from Patrick’s phone. Hey Cas, just checkin up on u. Hope u r ok in FL. Heart Tricky. Casey smiled as she ran her hand along Bear’s back, her eyes reading over the message.

She moved onto the next message, opening it. She fault to hold back a giggle when she saw Andy and Shaun making weird faces for a picture. The message below said, We’re thinking of you! Hope you can hurry back soon! Andy and Shaun. She smiled as she scrolled back up to the picture. “They really are a cute couple Bear,” she said as she lightly scratched behind Bear’s ear, moving onto the next message.

Listen to your voice mail, asap - Joe @:)

Casey lifted a brow and closed out of her texts and went to her missed call list, seeing she had a missed call from Joe, and two from Pete. She closed her phone and reopened it before she called her voice mail. She bit her lip slightly as the voice mail from Joe clicked on after a moment.

“Something happened today and it made me wish everything was cool and yeah... The sound board got fried, out of nowhere, quit working and it’s going to take them a week to get the part, so Pete’s going to be free all week.” He sighed softly. “We miss you Casey, all of us. Call me later when you can.”

Casey frowned, wishing that everything was cool, that she was back in Chicago, snuggled safely into Pete’s arms, not here; not with her mom seeing Jeffrey again. She deleted the message and closed her phone to disconnect from her voicemail before she opened it and looked at her missed calls, pressing the Call button when she had the number Joe called from high-lighted.

After a few rings, Casey smiled when she heard the slightly lisped, “Hey Casey,” and a smile in the voice on the other side.

“Hey Joe, I got your message,” she said as she scritched behind Bear’s ear again. “I’m missing all of you guys too. You’re not the only one that tried to get a hold of me today.”

Joe chuckled. “Everyone’s missing you here. Trick and I have been watching Jasper for you so the old guy upstairs won’t have to. Hey Casey, you haven’t by any chance heard from Pete, have you? Ever since the sound board went down we haven’t been able to find him.”

Casey frowned as she got up from the bed and pushed her hair from her face. “No, I haven’t... I mean, I have two missed calls from him, but he didn’t leave a voicemail and he didn’t send a text... Do you think he’s okay?”

Joe sighed on the other end of the phone. “I don’t know... He went missing, and no one’s heard from him. His phone is going straight to voicemail so we don’t know what’s going on...”

Casey left the bedroom and made her way down the hallway, heading to get a cup of her grandmother’s coffee. She turned the corner and stopped, almost dropping her phone when she saw Irene and Pete sitting at the dinging room table, both nursing two cups of coffee. “J-Joe?”

“Yeah Cas?”

“I found Pete... I’ll have him call you.”

As Casey hung up her phone, Pete got up and moved to her, hugging her tightly. She hugged him back, burying her face in his shoulder, her tears quickly forming and she didn’t even bother trying to hold back as he held her closer.

Pete frowned into her hair when he heard her sob softly. He rubbed her back as he held her close, nodding to Irene and mouthing a ‘thank you’ when she smiled at him and headed down the hall to the bedroom. He kissed the top of her head as she cried softly into his shoulder, but he didn’t need to ask her any questions. Irene had explained to him that her mother was dating Jeffrey again and how badly it had affected the love of his life. Then again, if he was in her shoes, he would be collapsing into her as well.

“It’s okay baby, I’m here, and I’m not going anywhere until you’re okay,” he whispered, resting his head lightly against hers.
