Chapter 10
Patrick’s POV
I got in my car and decided to get a cup of coffee. I just couldn’t handle it anymore. I sat down and waited for the waitress.
“Can I take your order?”
“Yeah.”
I looked up. The waitress was beautiful.
“Uh, a coffee. That’s what I want.”
“Are you alright?”
“You just caught me by surprise.”
“So, you just want a coffee.”
“That’s what I said.”
“I’m sorry.”
It came our harsher than it was suppose to. I was just tired of everything.
“Hey, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean for it to come out like that. Why don’t you bring me a piece of apple pie.”
“You sure?”
“Yes.” I smiled at her.
“I’ll be right back.”
After a few minutes later she came back.
“Here you go. I didn’t know if you wanted ice cream. I brought some in a bowl.”
“I’d love some.”
She was about to leave and I grabbed her arm.
“I’m sorry I snapped at you. It’s been a long day.”
“It’s fine.”
She smiled at me. She left to wait on some other customers. Every once in awhile I would look at her. Maybe it was time to move on from Brendon and Kendra. I got up to go to the register to pay. She came over.
“All finished?”
“Yeah. It was good.”
I paid and she handed me my change.
“Um, I was wondering if you would like to go out sometime?” I asked her.
“Me?”
“Yes, you.”
“Sure. I’d love to. I have tomorrow off.”
“Okay. Want to go out tomorrow then?”
“Yeah. I don’t know your name.”
“Patrick Stumph and I don’t know yours?” She laughed.
“You could of looked at my name tag. It’s Barbara Walsh.”
“Nice to meet you. Now, where can I pick you up at?”
“1919 Elm Street. I’m in apartment D.”
“Okay. I’ll pick you up at 6:00.”
“Bye, Patrick.”
“Bye.”
I walked to my car and went home. For once I felt good.

The next morning I went to the studio. Everyone was there except Brendon.
“Hey, Patrick.”
“Hi, Ryan. How are you?”
He sat next to me.
“Good. How are you and Brendon?”
“Alright. Why?”
“I know what has gone on. He told me.”
“Well, I’m not about to do anything. We’ve all hurt each other.”
“Are you sure?”
“What the hell? I just told you. Maybe you should talk to Brendon.”
“I’m just worried. I’ve known Brendon a long time.”
“I understand. He needs to figure some things out before he really hurts Kendra.”
“She didn’t exactly sit back and not do anything.”
“I know. We’re all at fault. I just hope they can move past this.”
“Me too. Brendon and Kendra deserve to be together.”
Ryan left and I opened my computer. I started to set up. All I could think of was Barbara. I knew then that I didn’t love Kendra. I didn’t even know how I felt about Brendon. Brendon came in the studio and sat next to me.
“Hi, how are you?”
I looked at my computer screen.
“Fine. Did you look at any of the music I left.”
“Yeah. I liked it all. I’ll talk to Ryan about it.”
“Okay.”
“Patrick, I’m sorry. This has gotten awkward. I don’t know what to say to you or Kendra anymore.”
“I hope you and Kendra can work things out.”
“We’ve been talking. I think that’s what we need to do first. We need to fix our relationship.”
“That’s good. I really do hope you do. I’m sorry I let my true feelings for you come out.”
“No. Don’t be. I’m glad. It got me talking to Kendra about myself.”
He kissed me on the cheek and left. I couldn’t believe he told me all of that and kissed me. What was I suppose to think?
Brendon’s POV
(the night before)
I watched Patrick leave. I knew Kendra and him wouldn’t do anything again. I was mad at myself. Patrick was all I thought about. But I wanted to be with Kendra.
“Brendon, are you coming to bed.” I looked up.
“Come here.”
She sat next to me and I took her hand.
“Baby, I need to tell you something. I’ve been trying to get past all this stuff with Patrick.”
“We haven’t done anything since that night.”
“I know. I’m talking about myself.”
“You and Patrick have been together?”
“No, but he’s all I think about. I try not to. I’m sorry.”
“What can we do? I don’t want to lose you.”
“I don’t want to lose you either, but I have no idea what to do. I can’t do this to you.”
“What are you saying? Do you want to break up?”
“No. But it’s not fair to you. I’m tired of hurting you.”
“Brendon, I love you. We’ve been through a lot. I believe we can overcome this. It will take time. I want us to work on it. Don’t forget I hurt you too.”
“Can I ask you something?”
“Of course.”
“Do you think about him?”
“Sometimes. I wouldn’t say I love Patrick, but I do feel something for him. I’m trying to forget him. It’s hard though. I’m sorry. I love you.”
“I love you, too. We are going to work on this. We just need to work on us more. Do you want to go out tomorrow night?”
“What about recording?”
“I’ll get out early. I promise.”
“Alright. I miss our dates.”
“Things have been so hectic. I’ll try and make some free time.”
“Sounds good. Why don’t we go to bed.”
I stood up with her hand in mine and we walked to the bedroom together.

The next morning I woke up before the alarm went off. I just laid there and watched Kendra sleep. I knew we would get past this. I got up and got dressed. I went to Kendra and bent down.
“Kendra, wake up.”
She opened her eyes and looked at me and smiled.
“Good morning.”
“I’m going to be leaving soon. I just wanted to say bye and I’ll be back around five or so.”
“Have a good day.” She kissed me.
“Do you have any plans today?”
“Actually, I do. I signed up for an art class.”
“That’s right. I’ll be your model if you need one.”
“I may take you up on that.”
“See you later.”
I left and before I went to the studio I went to the florist. I wanted to surprise Kendra. I got to the studio a little late. I seen Patrick getting his computer ready. I knew I had to talk to him. I sat next to him and told him that Kendra and I were going to work on our relationship. Then I kissed him on the cheek. Just when I thought I was moving on. What was it about that man?
Kendra’s POV
After Brendon left I decided to get up and take a shower. When I got done dressing, there was a knock on the door.
“Hello. I’m delivering these to you.”
“Oh, thank you.”
There was a dozen red roses. I put them on the table and looked at the card.
Kendra-
Just wanting you to know that I’m
Thinking of you. I love you so much.
Brendon
They were beautiful. I knew he was really trying. I looked at the clock and had to leave for my class.
When I got to the classroom most of everyone was there. I found an empty seat.
“Hello.” I looked up.
“Hi. I’m Kendra.”
“Nice to meet you. My name is Barbara. Are you new?”
“Yeah. I live in Las Vegas, but my boyfriend is doing some work here. I thought I would take a class to keep me busy. Are you going to school here?”
“Yes, but just part time. I’m almost done though.”
We went through the normal first day things and then we were to do a portrait. Since there was time we all started on it. I was going to draw Brendon. After about fifteen minutes it was time to go.
“Who are you doing your portrait on?” Barbara asked me.
“My boyfriend.”
“How sweet.”
I looked at hers. It was just an outline, but the drawing looked familiar. Like I knew the person.
“What about you?”
“It’s a guy that I just met. He came to the café that I work at last night. We have a date tonight.”
“I hope you have fun.”
“Thanks. You know, I’ve been here a year and really don’t know too many people. If you want we could get together sometime.”
“Sure.”
“Here is my number.”
“See you next class.”
“Bye.”
I left and decided to get something nice for the date.
