Moo: Hey now, you better go look at my profile and click the link that takes you to a poll I created concerning my return to Ficwad. Also, I expect long reviews like I requested before
Closing up on a Friday night was not one of my favorite things to do. Until my promotion, I would have the help of my boss, but now that I was in charge, I was alone. Pete had promised to meet up with me around closing to escort me to the club where Joe had managed to land a small guitar gig with a local band Pete was friends with. Regardless, I was still a little nervous about from now until then, no matter how short the window of time was. I got up at that thought and decided to play it safe and simply lock up until I saw the familiar boy out front, smiling though the windows. However, as I was turned and searching for my keys, the front door jingled and feeling overly confident in who it could have been, I spoke while still turned around.
“Hey Pete,”
“You are some psychic,”
Instantly I jumped and found that instead of seeing a friendly Pete, I found a bitter and broken man; Paul.
“P-Paul,” I muttered. I pushed myself against the counter and cursed at my stupidity of not shielding myself behind the register, like I should have been doing. My defenses that were usually well-built came crumbling down and in one blink I felt my heart rate increase rapidly. “What-”
“Don’t question me, Ev,” I cringed at his voice as he cut me off. Only my friends were allowed to call me by ‘Ev’. “I’m here to question you,” I pursed my lips together, in all honesty scared. I did not know what this man was capable, and considering the fact he had tried to hurt me before, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did it again.
“What?” I asked, timidly and attempted a friendly smile, which he just shook his head at.
“You are stupid for getting involved with Pete, he’s just going to fuck you and leave you for another bitch,” he looked away momentarily. “He’s done it before,” I ignored his comments and relaxed slightly.
“Are you trying to protect me?” I inquired next. Paul looked back at me and creased his eyebrows together.
“What if I am? All I’m saying is you’d be better off with somebody-” I cut him off.
“Like you?” I spat. I laughed shortly at this and shook my head, amazed at how far the guy would go to get a girl. “You kind of lost your chance once you spiked my drink with roofies, don’t you think?”
Paul’s eyes lit up at this and with one twitch through his body, he leapt forward at me, arms raised in an aggressive manner. I had time to raise my own arms as he pinned me to the counter, but his strength at the moment was a little too much for me and I felt my back being bent over the counter, my body being lifted to be pushed over the ledge to the other side. In an instant, though, Paul disappeared from off of me and as I sat up on the counter, I found Pete, a permanent scowl plastered on his face as he delivered a punch to Paul while he lie on the ground, kicking back.
“Pete!”
I jumped off the counter, only to see Pete glance up and stop me with a hard expression. He moved Paul to drag him out of the shop but the situation changed drastically as Paul pushed him towards me and instantly pulled at his jacket, his hand disappearing inside it for a moment. Pete took the pause to jump forward at him again and I stepped forward too, knowing already what Paul was reaching for. The two turned towards me and I couldn’t help but lurch at the sight of a handgun clenched in the fist of Paul, Pete’s hands wrapped around his wrists in a desperate ploy to get it pointed out of his face.
“Ev! Get out of here!” Pete barely got the sentence out through his grunts of discomfort, being whipped around by Paul’s erratic movements. Though, this sentence seemed to tick Paul off even more and through his built up stamina, pushed the two off us off of him and quickly moved his aim to Pete, who was standing just a few inches in front of me. My eyes shifted franticly from Paul’s panicked face, to his finger on the trigger to Pete’s arms that were raised in the air, defensively.
“Don’t do it, Paul,” I spoke and stepped forward, next to Pete. He looked at me momentarily and shifted his eyes back at Pete who was now looking at me from the corner of his eyes. “You don’t need to do this,”
Paul took a deep breath and licked his lips nervously. Everything my dad ever taught me about protecting myself came back to me and I thought about the consequences of jumping forward and retrieving the gun from Paul. I had no time to react though; Pete decided to do so first and stepped forward, only for Paul to move the gun towards him again and in the second I knew he was going to pull the trigger, I shifted my feet and threw my body into Pete’s, knocking the two of us down onto the ground. The entire building shook with a deafening boom and my ears began to ring, but then there was silence, followed by a sharp pain in my shoulder as I rolled slightly off of Pete, only to see Paul standing in the middle of the shop, staring breathless down at me. I gulped as my vision blurred, and hissed as my body moved, Pete scrambling to my side, his face in shock. I looked past him to see Paul running towards the door, but after a failed attempt at being stopped by Joe, being taken down by Ashley. I didn’t bother to care where they came from and diverted my attention back up to Pete who was hovering above me, quickly ripping off his hoodie and pushed it to my shoulder. I coughed, and as it raked my body upwards, I glanced down at Pete’s hands, and saw the blood on his fingertips and felt my eyes widening.
“Ev,” I moved my vision back to Pete to see his eyes glazing over and his lips parting in shock. He was at a loss for words. “Come on Ev, don’t do this, you can’t take a bullet for me and not make it, ok?”
His breathless smile was enough for me to attempt one, but found the pain unbearable, and coughed again, tasting blood in my mouth the moment I did so. I heard Ashley in the background, and looked to see Ashley on the phone, crying, which she never did with Joe sitting on an unconscious Paul.
“Hey,” I whispered. Pete breathed a small laugh and leaned towards me, and I felt my heart ache as a tear escaped his eye and rolled down his nose, the wetness of it dampening my cheek slightly.
“Shh,” he hushed, and I closed my eyes, feeling his hands press harder down on my shoulder. “You’re going to be ok, Ev, and after all of this I’m going to take you on the best date of your life and we can tell everybody we meet about how you saved my life…” His voice faded out at this point, and I allowed myself to drift away into unconsciousness, and the only thing surrounding me was darkness. I couldn’t tell if I was hanging on, or if I was already dead.

I was surprised at how quickly I was released from the hospital after I woke up. A few hours after surgery, they bandaged me up and I was very joyous to find Pete waiting in the lobby with a giant bouquet of daisies clutched in his hands. A few moments later, I was in his car, and he was driving away from the hospital.
“So where do you want to go? Home?” he asked. I shrugged as I situated myself in the passenger seat, placing the flowers in my lap. I looked over at him and nervously picked at my nails, glancing down at the thick bandage wrapped around my arm and shoulder.
“In all honesty, I don’t really want to go back to the city so soon,” I whispered, my throat still a little dry from being knocked out for so long. Pete nodded knowingly.
“Well, you can always bunk up with me at my parent’s house,” he offered. I shook my head.
“I kind of want to be away from everyone,” Pete looked over at me briefly before reaching over and pushing his hand into mine. Squeezing my hand, he looked back to the road.
“Ok, well then how bout we go uptown and find a hotel so maybe we can both get a break,” I smiled at his suggestion and agreed silently, finding a grin appearing on his expression.
A break from life was just what I needed; thinking about what had happened in the coffee shop worked me up, and I knew being around in that environment would be very rough for me. It wasn’t like I was being weak; I just didn’t want to deal with the reality of the situation until I felt like it. It really did help that I still had my dad’s credit card, and decided to spoil both Pete and I with one of the suites at the hotel. The minute I sat down on one of the beds in the bedroom, I felt comfortable and swung my body on top of it and stretched my legs out.
“Who’s to say I didn’t want that one?” Pete joked and I shook my head, watching as he sat down next to me. I sighed and observed my bandage again and winced at the memory of where it came from.
“So I really got shot, didn’t I?” I asked. Pete frowned at this and scooted his body a little closer to mine.
“You did more than that, Ev. You pushed me out of the way and took a freaking bullet for me,” he paused, shifting his eyes to his lap for a moment before connecting them with my own. “You saved my life,”
My breath hitched as his comment and I felt an unknown warmth envelop my heart and felt it creep about my body, making goose bumps rise along my arms. I took a deep breath and observed the way Pete raised his arms and slowly let him wrap them around me, carefully of course. I rested my head against his shoulder and closed my eyes, breathing a sigh of relief. Though, I couldn’t help but notice the way I could hear Pete’s rapid heart beat through his neck and pushed my ear a little harder against his clavicle to listen in.
“What’s wrong?” I asked quietly, and felt his breath hitch in a smirk.
“I’m nervous Ev, what do you think?” I smiled slightly as his bluntness and willingness to be honest with me.
“Why?” I questioned.
Pete sighed and peeled me away from him and stared down at me, his eyebrows creased and lips tightly pressed together. I licked my own lips nervously and took a deep breath, my own nerves building up. The more time he took to answer me, the more time we spent just staring at one another, speechless. I gulped and decided to lower my head slightly, only for Pete’s hand to meet my cheek and pull my face up again, his lips instantly meeting mine in a soft kiss. I was hesitant, at first, but let myself relax against him and even though we had shared other small kisses before, I knew from the start this one was different. His tongue innocently ran across my lip and with that emotion in my heart before returning, I obliged, titling my head to the side as he made the kiss more passionate. A small and very quiet groan came from the back of his throat and I felt my cheeks heat up. His other hand moved to my waist and I broke our kiss as he did so. We locked eyes again and I bit my lip slightly, my breath a little heavy.
“Pete,” I mumbled. He gulped and rubbed his fingertips against my side, his face holding a worried expression.
“Is this ok, Ev?” he asked quietly.
I let my eyes close in thought and could not, as hard as tried, to push the warm feeling engulfing me away. I peered at Pete, finding him slightly defeated already, and placed a hand on his cheek and moved his head towards mine again. I didn’t really know how to answer him with words, so I opted with bringing his lips to mine yet again. This time however, I pushed his lips apart and made the kiss heated, an action I was not used to performing on anyone. I shivered as Pete moved his fingers from my side and slithered a few under the cloth of my shirt, rubbing his fingers across my hips before wrapping a hand around my bare waist. I didn’t stop him, but instead let him lie me back on the bed, his movements being both slow and gentle. I was nervous as he broke away to stare down at me, but decided that whatever was going to happen within the next few minutes had to happen. My heart had never ‘talked’ to me before and in that moment it was screaming for me to let the man who was hovering above me continue what he had started.
Pete did just that and as he breathed out, he moved his hands to the hem of my shirt and tediously pushed it up, almost as if he was scared that I was going to stop him. As he reached past my navel, he locked eyes with me and I nodded slightly and with another release of a nervous sigh, he pulled my cami over my head, helping me raise my arm, albeit not as high as I usually could have, as he did. I felt my cheeks flare again and started thinking about the last time I was in this position, in more ways than one. I was not just about to sit up and announce I was virgin, like I did to Derek, and run out, but at the same time, I was very anxious to see whether or not this situation would go as far. I shook the thought to the back of my head and observed as Pete pulled his own shirt off, lowering himself back over me and opting to kiss my collarbone. I arched up slightly and closed my eyes, excited, to say the least. Moments later, his hands were at the button of my jeans and I brought my bottom lip into my mouth, closing my eyes a little tighter.
“Ev,” I snapped them open as Pete breathed my name, and stared up at him with weary eyes. “Is this what you want?” he asked softly. I gulped and wrapped my arms across my bra and chest but nodded, feeling very sure of myself.
“Yes,” I spoke. Pete’s smile was very small but before he continued with my jeans, he moved my arms from shielding myself and kissed the side of my face.
“Don’t worry, you’re beautiful,”
I felt overwhelmed by his statement but let him continue and watched his movements as he pulled my jeans down my legs followed by his own along with his boxers. He moved the sheets around us and I closed my eyes again as our lips met once again, his hands moving at first to my back where he unclasped my bra and then to my waist where he hooked his fingers into my panties and with his eyes locked on mine, pulled them off. I pursed my lips together and instantly felt my heart kicking at my chest. I really didn’t expect this sort of thing to happen between us, but no matter how much I tried to argue the thought in my mind, my heart kept telling me to do it. Pete moved his hand down to push my legs apart before resting one on one side of me to keep himself up and the other on my hip. I gulped one last time and shut my eyes as he kissed me and let my breath hitch into his mouth as he slowly pushed himself in. I tightened my eyes shut a little more at the feeling, but felt myself relaxing instantly against him. Pete moved slowly, as if he somehow knew that this, was in fact, my first time and did not dare quicken his pace until I beckoned him to do so. It wasn’t long, however, until I felt myself contract around him and he noticed, his lips pulling away from mine and his head moving to rest against the pillow next to mine.
“Ev,” he moaned out and I opened my eyes, breathing out in a quick manner. I held onto him tighter and as my back arched up at my climax I felt him tighten his arms around me as well, no doubt hitting his as well. Our breaths were still heavy as he thrusted himself out, and he smiled down at me before moving to lie next to me. I held the sheet to my chest and paused in my thoughts before letting myself curl into him. He looked down at me and simply smiled, pushing a small kiss to my lips.
“Evie,” he breathed. I shook my head and closed my eyes, exhausted.
“Let’s just sleep now, Pete,” I whispered and slithered an arm around his chest, burying my head in the crook of his neck. Whatever had just happened between us could wait until the morning.
