A/N: Song My Immortal by Evanscence
Disclaimer: I own nothing
I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
Your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone
Mai glanced at Zuko from across the table. Azula and Ty Lee were having some ridiculous conversation about puppies and burning people alive. Zuko on the other hand just swished his noodles around with his chopsticks. A frown tattooed on his face. I know you want to leave! Just leave already! It hurts too much! Mai felt like screaming. But of course she didn't. She sat still and proper and no one noticed the tear that ran down her cheek.
These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just to real
There's just too much time cannot erase
Mai read the letter again and again. Part of her wanted to scream and kick and fight and follow Zuko around the world. Another part of her was happy at finally being released. The strongest part of her sat still and proper. Holding back all the anger and hurt inside of her. Mai knew these wounds Zuko left would never heal. Never.
When you'd cry
I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream
I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand
Through all of these years
But you still have all of me
The night on the ship had been one of the strangest nights of Zuko And Mai's life. Zuko had burst into her room sobbing. Mai held his hand and wiped away his tears. Then he just left the next morning and acted like nothing had happened.
You used to captivate me
By your resonating light
Now I'm bound by the life
You left behind
Your face it haunts
My once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased
Away all the sanity
Left in me
Curled up in the corner of her room at the mental institution, Azula thought and thought and thought. Her father was at the centre of her thoughts. He used to captivate her. He oozed charisma. Azula just wanted to please Ozai. Now he had fallen, pulling her down too. Every night Ozai haunted her dreams. His voice chased away any chance of her sanity returning.
These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just to real
There's just too much time cannot erase
The wounds left by her father would never heal. The pain was constant time couldn't take it away.
When you'd cry
I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream
I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand
Through all of these years
But you still have all of me
Azula had always been there for her father. After he had been defeated. Azula went to visit him once. Ozai had cried on her shoulder. Azula wiped away his tears. Azula held his hand the entire hour she had been granted.
I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though your still with me
I've been alone all along
Ursa looked at her husband with outrage.
"You want to kill our son?"
"It has to be done"
Ursa turned away from her husband. Ozai had changed these past few years. She had tried to prepare herself for being alone but she never knew.
"No it does not."
When you'd cry
I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream
I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand
Through all of these years
But you still have all of me
Me, me, me
When Ozai cried Azula wiped away his tears.
When Ozai screamed Ursa fought his fears.
It was Mai holding Zuko's hand through all those years.
