Harry Potter And The Secrets Of Magic

I hope to see another chapter soon. As you mentioned in your first note, you're definitely using cliches, even horribly overused (is that redundant given they are cliches?) and not very believable ones like the Veela/Mermaid war, but I'm a fan of many cliches myself, especially anything that turns Harry into Super!Harry (hell, I even like Godly!Harry) so keep writing!Author's response
Thanks, glad you're liking it (and yes, we're working toward that sort of Harry - will take a while though)Harry Potter And The Secrets Of Magic

Hey there,
You were right. There are cliches and CLICHES, but I enjoyed yours so far.
You gave a very good insight into Gabrielle, Harry and Hermione in the first two chapters, Gabrielle being the most detailed and processed to perfection.
Veela are mostly, especially by most writers on this archive, depicted as material for some quality smut, and I applaud you for having chosen a different path. I always felt Veela must be much more than that.
I only hope you won't turn your story into some Super!Harry or Godly!Harry horror; he's just a young man with his pluses and minuses, leave him at that! Grant him some happiness!
I will most definitely be following up on your coming chapters. In the meantime, please allow me some shameless self-plug and suggest you to read my own Harry/Fleur story titled "I remember", which I - due to the specifics of this site - have uploaded elsewhere? This is my own take on Veela and I would be really curios to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!
Yep, that's what I've noticed with Veela in most fics. There'll eventually be some sex, but, that won't be for many chapters, and instead develop naturally from their relationships.
Won't be a Super! Harry. Harry WILL be powerful, but it will take him sometime to gain control over it, and use it, but overall he'll be on par with Voldie/DumbledorewithElderwand, perhaps with a little more raw power, but less knowledge.
Thanks for the plug, I'll definitely check out your story when I get some reading time.Harry Potter And The Secrets Of Magic

I very nearly facepalmed when you brought up the Veela Bond and the mermaid war. Nearly. However, you basically took the same approach to it as Jeconais did in his story "Hope," which is a good thing. All three Grangers were portrayed well, ESPECIALLY since you didn't fall into the "Dan and Emma" fanon trap. The best line of the chapter was Harry in bed with a Veela pretending she was Hermione.Author's response
Thanks! Glad you're liking the Grangers. A few years ago I might have gone with Dan and Emma, but it just got old and rather lame.
LOL, yeah that's my favorite part of the chap. Glad you liked it!Harry Potter And The Secrets Of Magic

A very good chapter I liked the information on the Veela and allure but it would be good if once Harry destroys the Dark Lord and the Headmasters Order are dealt with Harry should free the Veela as they want to be free unlike the elves.
Good thinking to expand on the power of love as its this Harry's greatest strength yet he never really experences it and nobody helps him to understand it or even work out how it could be used beyond hugging the Dark Lord. The books made it seem like once Harry was ready to die that was it, not a whole lot of love there.
A good start to the relationship between Harry and Gabrielle I hope in time he will come to love her as much as he does Hermione and that Harry finds out Gabrielle would risk everything for his sake as not even Hermione has done that.
I hope you decide to give Harry a back bone or some balls so that when the time comes its not Harry/Hermione and they decide to include Gabrielle but Harry decides he wants them both that way Gabrielle is not viewed as the bad guy for getting in between Harry and Hermione. As the line "Harry in bed with a Veela pretending she was Hermione" that says it all.
Nothing is ever really said about Hermione's scar so thanks for that and for no Hermione/Ron
I look forward to the next chapter and I hope the Dursley's are punished.Author's response
Thanks for the review.
Glad you're liking it, and yeah, I felt JKR dopped the ball on the "power he knows not is love" in the last book.
More on the veela later on.
Harry will definitely have a backbone, and thus far my plans are for him to be the one to bring the idea to Hermione.
Dursleys won't be punished completely next chap, jsut scared, but they WILL eventually get what's coming from them.Harry Potter And The Secrets Of Magic

Well, it looks like a fun job of playing with cliches so far and I'm looking forward to the Dursleys vs. an angry Veela. Now, what's really going to get interesting is when Hermione, with her feelings for Harry, gets added into the mix. I'm certain there'll be a number of misunderstandings before things get hashed out; of course, the problems with communications should raise a number of warning signs in all concerned and I suspect Albus will -not- appreciate the consequences as Harry and his ladies will be nowhere as easy to control and manipulate as an isolated Harry and the Weasleys will be totally out of luck as manipulative tools to control the various individuals. It's going to get rather acrimonious at times as the youngest Weasleys find themselves frozen out and Molly finds that she's going to have to replan if she still wants OBHWF.Author's response
Yep, there'll definitely be misunderstandings amongst the trio, and conflicts mentally for Harry as he struggles with feeligns for two girls.
Albus will definitely not be too pleased, especially in a few chapters, and neither will Molly (first she has Fleur "taking" Bill, and suddenly Gabrielle will be there "taking" Harry).Harry Potter And The Secrets Of Magic

Again, I'm quite pleased with where you're going with the story. The possibility of some very entertaining fireworks when Hermione shows up at Privet Dr, with her parents in tow, only to find a new rival present, has me eager to read your upcoming work.
Characterization continues to be a strength, particularly with Hermione as she begins to over-think and worry why Harry doesn't respond to her mail. Will she hypothesize that Harry's mail is being intercepted before she asks him directly about it, or will she continue to get more worked up and assume he is ignoring her? Seems she ought to be able to figure it out given Dumbledore's actions the prior summer, but that assumes she is thinking completely rationally where Harry is concerned.
The Veela/Merpeople angle was handled well as was the description of the bond. Of course, you've mentioned that some of this can be cliche, but you brought it in with ease and competence. Fans of Veela have seen plenty of variations on the bond before, and I'm curious to see exactly what permutation you wind up bringing in.
How does Gabrielle's Veela magic work? You mentioned that the bond is a rope of magic only visible to Gabrielle; is that because she is one end of it or because she is Veela? So could Harry learn to see it as he is at the other end, or could Fleur learn to see it as she is also part Veela? Besides this, you mentioned the bond serves as a bit of a power boost for both of them. Can this boost be enhanced in some way? Will it grow to include Hermione with a correspondent "rope" of magic binding Gabrielle as well?
My favorite part for the chapter was of course Harry pretending that Gabrielle was Hermione so he could get some peace and sleep, while at the same time Hermione is coming to grips with the changing nature of her feelings for him. Delicious irony.
Please keep up the great job.
PS: Where do I buy popcorn for the upcoming Veela vs Dursleys showdown?Author's response
Thanks, happy you're enjoying it.
Yes, there may well be some interesting fireworks on that Friday. :D
RE Hermione and the letters, you'll find out how that's resolved in two chapters, but yes, she's rather over-thinking when it comes to Harry.
As to her magic, more in two chapters, but definitely it's mainly her being bonded that allows her to see it as she's part of it. Fleur will be unable to see the bond itself, but her senses would show her that he's already in a Veela bond with someone. Yes, Harry will also be able to learn to see it, partly because of his Power, and also because he's part of it. As to Hermione, that's also for a future chap.
Indeed, that was my favorite scene. :)
LOL, yep, there'll be quite a showdown next chap!
