Fairly in-character for all concerned, although I would think Vernon and Petunia would be more concerned about the house ownership. Also a bit out of character for Dumbledore NOT to have read the letter; and if he did, then he would know about the change of secret keepers. It will be interesting to see where you take this next.Author's response
Thank you! In regards to Vernon and Petunia being worried about the house ownership, they are. It doesn't seem like it because Petunia is emotionally spent at that point in time, and because I've always seem Vernon as somewhat arrogant in his belief that he can make things go his way, as is portrayed earlier when he compared Dumbledore to other businessmen he'd dealt with.
As for Dumbledore not reading the letter, there is going to be further explanation in one of the future chapters. =)
Thanks for the review! The Life Bond

My only question is how is it going to be until the Deatheaters find them?? Also I wonder if their new neighbors could be magical?Author's response
That is, of course, assuming they still live in Number 4. Also, there really wasn't much Death Eater activity. It's only in fourth year once their Dark Marks darken and they have suspicions that Voldemort is coming back do they even do anything.
And, of course, that's also assuming people know where Harry lives. At this point in time, it's not really a priority of the DE's to do such nefarious activities.
As for their neighbors, eh, nope. The Life Bond

How is it possible for the Dursleys to be that full of themselves? I don't know what the word or phrase which neatly fit that world view. I find them and their depiction in the films as so one dimensional.
My question has always been how could their neighbors not notice how unpleasant and malignant they were? I have neighbors who have creeped me out in the past. If they had children, I would have asked questions and asked other people about it until I had answers that make sense.
They are one group which has bugged me about the HP verse.
I am intrigued with this magical coma of HP's and his relationship with HG so far.Author's response
I believe that is an attitude after years of getting away with such awful neglect and mistreatment. You have to remember, the very first thing we see of the Dursleys in the Philosopher's Stone isn't a very good picture. They aren't very pleasant people, and then there's a massive time skip (ten years) and it doesn't explain HOW they became so unpleasant--only that they did.
And, sadly, there are people that unpleasant in real life.
As for how the neighbors never noticed, I actually have an explanation as to why that happened (which will be explained in future chapters). Because otherwise, I really don't know how on earth neighbors could've missed such glaring signs of abuse. I mean, even if Harry really was a hooligan, he did not deserve the shitty treatment.
Anyways, thanks for the review. :) Glad you like it so far.The Life Bond

The Dursleys have proven that thy are boned any chances of redemption Petunia had a chances there fore a moment but rejected it. They are pore selfishness.Author's response
I'd say that was correct. From what we've seen, the Dursleys have proven that they don't deserve any chance of redemption. The problem with that is that there is PLENTY that we do not see. From what was shown in the books, it's very easy and accurate to say that they are scum. They emotionally/mentally abused and neglected a child--something that is truly inexcusable. But WHY? WHY did they become such unpleasant people? WHY did Petunia act in such a way but showed slight remorseful at the end of the series? There is a LOT that can be done with them than just condemning them like I've seen so many people do.The Life Bond

I suspect it is somewhat telling that I have checked for an update on this story at least 3 times a day now for the last week. Marvelous work to get me that hooked.Author's response
Oh, dear. I'm so sorry for the long wait, though I'm glad you've taken such a liking to this story. I've recently moved, started a new job, and have also started another semester of college. I'm trying to find a rhythm, but I suspect I'll have the next update out in a week tops. The Life Bond

I seriously hope that the Dursleys get the repercussions of their actions soon. Now that the blood wards are down and they disowned Harry, they owe 10 years of rent for that house. AND now the Death Eaters can find and attack them as well. They are such FREAKS! I'm surprised that they (and the neighbors, are they really that dumb or self serving) can't see it. I always hated that in the book Harry wanted to SAVE them. He is such an idiot. If they don't get punished how will they ever learn what they are doing is wrong?Author's response
Don't worry; the Dursleys WILL get what's coming to them. True, they do owe ten years of rent. As for the Death Eaters finding and attacking them, nope. Despite how much I loathe the characters, I have actual plans for them.
As for them (and their neighbors) being so self-serving, well, we don't actually see how they act a lot or whatever. We're only showed a little of them in the beginning, then again after a time skip of TEN YEARS, and then again briefly during the summer. We don't get to see how they became so vile, and that just really adds to our disbelief and disgust at them. Now, as for their neighbors, I have an explanation for that in future chapters.
As for Harry wanting to save them, he's far from an idiot. It is in Harry's nature to want to help people. He risked his life to save Draco Malfoy, someone who had made his life a living hell and devised a plan that ended with the death of his mentor. His forgiving nature and martyrdom is what makes him both appealing and frustrating.
Wanting to save the Dursleys had nothing to do with idiocy. Rather, I see it as Harry not wanting to have their blood on his hands. They aren't worth anything to him. I'm fairly certain the primary reason he saved them is because Petunia is his aunt by blood. That's it.
Now, that being said, you DO have a point. If they don't know what they're doing is wrong, they most definitely won't learn. They will absolutely get punished in my story, but just punishing them will only foster more hatred towards wizardkind. No, they need to truly learn, and that involves teaching, not just punishing.
Thanks for the review. The Life Bond

Excellent story so far, I think your characters are all very close to how the cannon characters would have reacted had JKR written the books under those circumstances. Hope you continue this story, and (if you do) i can't wait to see how Dumbledore deals with the removal of the blood wards.
