interesting story, I signed up to follow, I'm sure, hermonie returned with their memories?Author's response
Hello, makarva,
Thanks for the kind words. I’m glad you’ve decided to read along.
Hermione: Actually, no. As Merlin said, “Hermione will still be there. Mayhaps not precisely as she is now, but that is the result of her living experiences. Have no fear, the Hermione you knew and loved will be there.”
This way Harry will get to know her and fall in love all over again.

You really don't like Griphook, do you? Oh well. The scum deserves it
The goblins. Until Harry Potter, my two main vies of goblins were from JRR Tolkien and Jim Henson's version. Jim henon's version dealt with the wishing away of babies and their leader was a fae by the name of Jareth(Labyrith)
As to Fawkes staying with Dumblemore. I'v seen these seven in fanfics:
1) Enslaved via a spell
2) placed as a watch to keep Albie's evil in check and reports to some other wizard or witch altogether
3) Bound to the school and not Albus at all. Whoever is headmaster has Fawkes.
4) You theory of can't leave his bonded until he passes on.
5) Slowly being corrupted by Albus. The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
6) He's immortal and bored out of his mind and sticklinbg with Albus is just passing time for a while and geyying soem good laughs.
7 Firebirds are just atttracted by a wizards power and not their personality. Grindelwald had a firebird in one fic.
Ah well. It' an entertaining fic so far.Author's response
Heya Tom!
It could have been any of the goblins. In fact, I have a story in the works where he calls Griphook ‘Brother’, so it just happens in the cases of JEDI, DIRTY HARRY (not ready yet), and this one, where I make him suffer. I’ve mentioned before that Rowling (if she wrote that book at all) did the goblins a real disservice. In fact, I read a fic before HBP came out that had Bill Weasley describing the Gobs just as JKR (or her ghostwriter) depicted them in DH.
IMO, Tolkien’s goblins were more like Imperial stormtroopers than anything else, and my daughter and I have watched Labyrinth so many times, we’ve worn out the videotape.
Fawkes: Each of those is a plausible explanation.

I heartily agree with your opinion of Deadly Halitosis, it is also inline with my feelings towards Half Blood Ponce. For me the series pretty much ended with the fifth book.
That said fan fiction has done an admirable job of bringing it back to life. The variety and imagination of some writers has kept HP alive and well.
I'm to the point of including your rendition of Harry's world in that collection.
I enjoyed your setup, it was clean, had good flow and the transition was both humorous and enjoyable. It was also fresh in that you had both Harry's existing at the same time for a short period.
Your handling of the Dursleys was delightful. My only question is, did you leave them their memories as humans? Leaning towards yes myself, strikes me as more appropriate.
Giving Dudley a second chance was good. He was only 4 when Old Harry returned so he should have a second chance.
All and all this is a good, solid story and a delight to read. I thank you for sharing it.

Heya Tax!
~Deadly Halitosis~
Snicker!
Yeah, those two books are the only stories I’ve ever read where the canon characters are out of character…in canon! I believe the last two books support my long ehld view that she gave some thirteen year old female fanauthor with an Alan Rickman fetish, a hundred pounds to write both, while she went on tour.
On the other hand, she did give us such loverly plotholes to fill!
Fanfiction: It’s funny, actually, I was involved in the very first fandom. Many of those authors ended up in writing careers of their own. Star Trek was a trend setter in more than a science fiction way. Some of the authors would never have become so well known had they not begun wiritng their own adventures for Kirk and his crew.

I’m humbled.
I try to set my stories up in a (mostly) logical and reasonable manner. It helps to avoid confuusion. I’ve always believed that details are what make a good story great…especially in time travel stories. You can only rely so much on Deus ex Machina.
The two Harry’s actually violates a basic precept of the time travel paradox, but then, so does time travel. ‘Sides, it felt right.
While leaving them their memories would have been evil, twisted and absolutely despicable, (and I still can’t believe I didn’t think of it!) there’s no reason for them to be anything but what they became. Vernon has a room-temperature IQ, and a top speed of three Knots. Petunia is in a group of critters as nasty as she is, (And I’ve seen alpaca in a herd. They’re not very nice to the junior members.)
Dudley: I agree. While in canon he made some really bad choices, he was conditioned to make them by his father. Here, I’ve simply removed that conditioning. If things go as I would expect, he’ll grow up as a well-rounded Aussie, who’s been taught right from wrong.
Thank you again. I’m glad you’re enjoying the ride.

"Story is going well so far. I like a time travel fic that kicks canon in a painful place. :)" cracks up laughing
@Alorkin: I disagree with you about the depiction of Goblins in DH, I think they are still as aloof and honourable as before, Griphook is just a greedy, self-serving little bastard with less honour in his little finger than an innocent child has in it's entire body!! EVIL GRINAuthor's response
Time travel fics are one of my favorite genres, because if you are careful, you can pull off damn near anything.
My assertion about the goblins, was made from the interaction before Book Sux part II, came out. They were surly and rude, but competent and efficient, and seemed to be a warrior type of people. Interestingly enough, Rowling’s depiction of the Goblins in DH, was developed by a fan author shortly after OotP came out. This is one of the reasons that I believe she ghosted the final two books.

"
And the goblins suddenly became backstabbing, deal-breaking thieves who'd sell their mothers for a few sickles.
"
I'm pretty sure she was just projecting Ron on the poor honorable creatures.
Loving the story, know it's been a dog's age, but can't help but laugh at so many excellent digs. Giving the Dursley's their 'natural lives' was truly inspired.
