That end scene with Couch and Kingsley was outstanding.
You have set the stage with this chapter very well! We get to see that Harry still has that quality within him to want to help and protect his friends and the people he cares about. It will be fascinating to watch as they train him and teach him how to unlock the power within him.
Great Chapter!

What an excellent, chilling, macabre sentence on Vernon! "The next time you fall asleep". Brrrr. Just that creative punishment alone made this chapter.
I like Old One's partial acceptance of Sirius's guilt; they're being open, but you haven't had them automatically assume that the Magical world got it wrong, which would be too simplistic for the story.
I didn't like the use of horcruxes by 'old ones' in your other stories - White Warlock? - but Mo's clarification that the 'death of a sentient' need NOT be murder made it more ethically acceptable, here.
Two animagus forms, hey, once Harry's sorted out the 'conflict'? Nice idea. I wonder if he'll lose one form, and the parseltongue, when Voldemort is vanquished?
Continuing to hate ficwad, FYI; e-mail notifications never work, for you or the other two authors I'm tracking. A visit to the forum here seems to show that the site has many problems.Author's response
My real choices seem to be ficwad or fiction alley, and I really have no deisre to get paragraphs from their mods scolding me for being an awful writer if there's a space after a hyphen or have to resubmit a chapter if I fail to capitalize Horcrux.
Whatever Harry retains after the Horcrux is broken will stay retained, but not everything can be kept.

Death penalty for Vernon? Doesn't rally sit well here, but I'll wait and see where you are heading with this. I'm assuming that Jason is the same one in the Argonauts.~JimWhen Vernon Didn't Miss

Ouch! Exit Vernon Dursley; stage down! Petunia has fifteen years (and a hefty fine) staring her in the face. Not to mention that both the Ministry and DumbAsADoor get seriously hammered. As to why Harry is not more of a thinker; remember, he had been having it beat into him don't be successful or a standout, especially when compared to Dudley (who is Crabbe-class as a thinker at best). However, consider Harry's marks in Defense (even more so, in Charms and Transfiguration) in canon; he is, quite literally, the only wizard (or witch, for that matter) that comes even close to challenging the grades of Hermione Granger, and as powerful as Harry is magically, power will only take you so far (especially in non-Defense-related magical subjects such as Charms and Transfiguration). Even the brainiest Ravenclaws (Cho Chang, Luna Lovegood, and Kevin Entwhistle) seem dim compared the the brain of Hermione Granger; however, Hermione is a Gryffindor (hence braver than she is smart, which is quite scary, considering that brain), and even Harry can compete on a brain level with most Ravenclaws when given the chance to (as his canon marks in Charms and Transfiguration prove). Part of the problem with looking at Harry brainwise is that Hermione Granger tends to throw comparisons askew; his very anti-standout upbringing by the Dursleys certainly didn't help any. So compare Harry to the Ravenclaws, leaving aside the dual aberrations of Hermione Granger and Harry's own Defense marks.Author's response
Yes, that's pretty much my view of Harry as well. I generally dislike seeing Harry being shown as rather dimWhen Vernon Didn't Miss

i love your stories. they are so entertaining, i can loose myself for hours reading them. and i have not seen another story that handled vernon's sentence in the way you did so. very clever. your original characters are engaging. i hope you are still writing, somewhere...maybe professionally? but if not, i'm glad you have left what you have written on the net for us plebes. thanks for sharing. When Vernon Didn't Miss

Good chapter. I like how you showed a way to do Horcruxes without murdering outright. Mercy killing, I thought, was an interesting addition, and really, considering, quite appropriate. Now the thing with house elves seemed appropriate to me and quite intriguing. Good on you, what happened to the Dursleys. They needed killing, as the saying (down South) goes... :DWhen Vernon Didn't Miss

One of the things I hated in canon was that the so-called 'normal' family never answered for their abominable treatment of BWL. So Every story when Dursleys pay for their treatment of Harry makes me warm and fuzzy inside.
