Good job with Draco, I'll be interested in seeing how that develops (plus the Snape situation). Should I be surprised that Dumbles hasn't done anything (we can see so far at least) with the information that Quirrel has some thing in the back of his head?
And maybe Harry made up Pirate's Day, and it caught on!

- Mostly Tom was left alone so that I could get my Troll scene... He'll be gone soonHarry Potter and The Invincible Technomage

An excellent chapter! I loved how Harry dealt with Snape and Draco......by outthinking them! Though that's not hard to do.....snicker. Why the pair of them might actually get a few thoughts in their heads that aren't bigoted. Then again, maybe not. I'm not suprised that Dudley's lack of common sense caused a disaster, it's just too bad that innocent people died along with him and his parents. Harry and Padma came up with a great way to cheer up Hermione on her birthday, and it was also a nice way to bond with the other students. As for Harry and the troll....well, sometimes you can negotiate and sometimes you need the Terminator......looks like Filch is going to have quite a mess to clean up! Hmmmm...Snape can now get a first hand look at what Harry and his techsuit can do. Thanks for the chapter!Author's response
- Snape may have decided that not actively abusing Harry might just be a carreer enhancing action...
- For a while I've had the picture in my mind of Dudley going apeshit on a control console while Vernon defended him for being an inquisitive boy... And of course Harry catches it in the shorts as ususal.
- Actually Filch will have less to clean up than one might think...Harry Potter and The Invincible Technomage

yarr, yours be an evil cliff, matey!!
I love how well you write this Harry as able to be a kid! That he can be smart and confident and still be silly is such a nice change. You give him depth and it's a pleasure to see a 'real person' Harry instead of 2D 'hero' Harry.
Thanks for this, a very nice Christmas present.Author's response
- I'm glad you think so. I've been told I'm writing him to mature, too childish, too dependant on his tech...Harry Potter and The Invincible Technomage

-laughs uproariously- So the Dursley's coddling of "Little Dumdums" led to their death? They earned it, then. Seriously, that scene did have resonances, for me, of a scene out of one of Heinlein's "Future History" short stories, set on a spaceship traveling 'tween Earth-orbiting and Luna-orbiting space stations. Not the same scene by a long shot, but with the same basic theme of an arrogant kid with an indulgent father really mucking things up.
I rather enjoyed this chapter, esp. some of the little "bits" you dropped like the levitating while meditating and how it annoyed someone as I do recognize the individual involved. I'm glad to see that living with Tony Stark has given Harry a much better appreciation of dealing with people and how to properly run damage control as well as how to defuse situations. I can't see Draco just rolling over, but if he is "given furiously to think, it just might have a rather positive effect in the longer term, which seems to be what Harry is aiming at.
I suspect the troll is now toast, but I also suspect that the side effects/backblast of releasing that much chaos magic on Harry is not going to be pretty, esp. when his backup approach was essentially a full-out kamikaze move. There will most definitely be some fascinating repurcussions from this. -chuckle- Anyone care to wager that Tony uses this to try and again argue his case for armor?
Oh, and the Pirate Birthday Celebration was a very nice touch; I can well believe the Wesealey twins joining in.Author's response
- BIngo, you found my inspiration for the scene...
- I can just see him doing it to Strange, and Wang putting him up to it. Clea would probably be tickled by it too.
- This technique is NOT going to work on Draco, but Harry will not be Draco's enemy, rather someone he argues with, mostly for the fun of it, both knowing that they will never change the mind of the other. This is not to say that Harry's words don't change any Slytherin minds...
- You're no fun, you keep seeing my plot twists before I finish them.
- Tony's going to want to Armor Harry up, but he's going to continue to resist the idea.
- I was having fun with it right up to the point I disturbed myself with the image of Dumbles in a lavender eyepatch...Harry Potter and The Invincible Technomage

Man your mean leaving it here!Author's response
- I don't know what you mean... The scene was over, leaving only the aftermath for next chapter... perfectly innocent here...;-}Harry Potter and The Invincible Technomage

There actually IS an "International Talk Like a Pirate Day?" OK, that's cute. Heck of a place to end a chapter, though. Harry is savvy - I love it.Author's response
- Yep, September 19th. Yarr!

-chuckle- Sorry 'bout that. It's more that I've just got a very large database of "stories read" to search. I'm "three score less four" in age and I've been reading sf&f, comics, adventure fiction, techno-thrillers, etc. for over four and a half decades; there's a lot of material there to evaluate with - plus I'm an engineer in RL and have to deal with all sorts of considerations professionally.
I can see Harry and Draco not becoming enemies, nor friends, but each other's favorite verbal sparring partner. I could see Draco's mind being fairly firmly fixed, but I could see a lot of others in Slytherin, who might normally "just go along", taking consideration and adopting a different approach; Tom will not like this. Then again, I doubt he's going to like a lot of what this Harry does.
Oh, BTW, I can't wait to see Hermione and Padma question him about that last order to his techsuit; and then give him holy hell for endangering them and, depending on what level of power the techsuit has, of endangering the structural integrity of Hogwarts itself (that has to be a fairly potent power source/storage, there).Author's response
- but it splattered the Troll so nice...Harry Potter and The Invincible Technomage

It seems to me that Tony Stark is as incapable of raising a snob little rich boy as Harry is unable to do anything but bloom with such a father. It honestly seemed so in character to me for the Dursleys to watch Dudders destroy them while cheering that I overlooked the Heinlein. I'm so saddened that he's becoming harder and harder to find in bookstores, it's like they are phasing out good Sci Fi for grocery store Sci Fi.
And, naturally Harry is dependent on his tech suit, it's a fabulous tool that his Dad gave him. Too dependent? like too dependent on a toothbrush?
I'm very intrigued by the impact of the Chaos Magic and the other diciplines on the JKR verse. Thanks again!

- All of the Grand Masters works are available on Amazon... (Though I would skip the recently discovered 'first novel' that came out a few years ago. Evidently editors are right on occasion.
- Actually Dad didn't give it to him, Harry kind of swiped the parts from a prototype armor at the age of nine after leading Hank McCoy and Simon Williams on a chase through Stark Mansion (Babysitting? How hard could that be?) only to be kidnapped by Whiplash...
- He was allowed to keep it when Whiplash begged to be arrested. It will be a Ransom of Red Chief homage.Harry Potter and The Invincible Technomage
