Jamia answered the soft knock on the door feeling a sense of relief.
Mikey walked in looking so tried she hugged him tightly. “I’m so glad you’re here.” She whispered in his ear.
He returned her hug. “Where is she?” He asked setting down his duffle bag.
“She in my bed. I talked her into sleeping in there instead of the sofa.”
Mikey nodded and quickly walked down the hall. He pushed open the door and saw her still form lying in the bed. He kicked off his shoes and crawled in next to her. Carefully he pulled her into his arms.
She stirred, “Mikey?”
“Yeah, Baby. I’m here.”
Alicia snuggled up to him. She buried her face in his chest. “How?”
“I knew my girl needed me. I came back as soon as I could.”
He felt her body begin to shake as her tears fell. “I’m so sorry. I tried to be strong until you got back. I almost made it.”
He rocked her gently, “I’m here now. I’ll take care of you.” He simply held her until she was ready to speak.
“I’ve been feeling so sick.
He rubbed her back as she spoke. “I was afraid it was my nephritis. Finally I couldn’t take it anymore and I went to the doctor.” They ran a bunch of tests and it scared me. I wanted to tell you but I didn’t want you to worry.”
“Baby, it’s my job to worry about you, don’t you know that?”
She nodded then grew quiet.
“Alicia what did the doctor say? What’s wrong?” Fear was tearing at his soul and he was trying to keep it from his voice.
Alicia moved back slightly to look into his face. “High risk. Oh, Mikey that scares me so much.”
He was confused, “High risk? Baby, I don’t understand.”
She locked eyes with him. “My pregnancy is high risk because of my kidneys.”
Mikey felt his world tilt. “Pregnancy?”
She nodded through her tears, “Yeah, we’re gonna have a baby but there’s a chance I could lose it. I’ve already had some problems.”
He closed his eyes and pulled her tightly to him. “A baby.” He whispered.
Alicia began crying harder, “I don’t want to lose our baby.”
Silently he prayed before answering, “You won’t. God, I can’t believe it, a baby. No more negative thoughts, okay? I love you so much, Alicia.”
“I love you too. I’m so glad you came home.” She whispered through her tears.
He closed his eyes and let the news sink in slowly. This was what he had been hoping and dreaming of. A baby. He and Alicia were going to have a baby. No, there was no way anything bad would happen, it just couldn’t. They held each other knowing that there was so much they had to discuss but for now just being in each other’s arms was the only important thing.

Kelly pulled the covers up over Elle all the way to her chin. She smiled in her sleep and snuggled her little body closer to Kelly.
On the bedside table Kelly’s phone began to vibrate. She fumbled for it in the darkness. “Hello”
“Sunshine, I just wanted to tell you goodnight.”
Kelly snuggled down under the covers and smiled. “Luke, thank you for going with us today.”
He laughed, “It was exciting. Did Bug ever calm down?”
“We called her mom and let her talk to her cause she started to miss her earlier.”
“She’s okay now?”
“She’s sleeping.”
Luke could imagine the scene. “I’m guessin you guys are in bed and you better not wake her. I’ll talk to you tomorrow.”
Kelly didn’t want to say goodbye just yet. “It’s okay. Bug sleeps pretty sound.”
Luke stretched out on his own bed in the darkness. “I don’t ever want to disappoint you.” He said suddenly. “I’m not the guy you think I am.”
Her answer surprised him. “How do you know what kind of guy I think you are?”
He frowned, “I dunno. I just think you have this idea that I’m some good guy or something.”
“You are a good guy.”
“You know what I mean. I can’t solve all of your problems.”
“Did I ask you to?”
He was growing frustrated, “No, you didn’t but I just don’t want you to get your hopes up. I’ll just let you down.”
Kelly signed, “Luke, you’re just scared.”
He was going to respond but stopped himself. She was right of course. He’s never felt this way before. No one had ever made him feel like Kelly did. She made him look at life like he’s never before done. She gave him hope, she made him feel loved. He didn’t want these feelings ever to end. That was what scared him. Nothing in his life had ever stayed good. He wasn’t sure how he could go on when things went wrong with Kelly.
“Luke”
“Yeah, Sunshine.”
“It’s all going to be okay. I won’t stop loving you.”
He realized she had just read his mind. “You can’t make a promise like that.” He whispered.
Kelly closed her eyes, “Yeah, I can. Things are gonna be just fine.”
As he listened to her voice he suddenly believed her words. “Yeah, Sunshine. You’re right.” He paused, “Just remind me every once in a while, okay?”
“Okay, I will.” She promised. “But you gotta promise to remind me sometimes too. Cause Luke, I get scared too.”

“I wish you were here right now.”
“Not more than I wish that.” Frank said sitting on the bed and kicking off his shoes. He was happy to have his own room. He just wanted to go to sleep so he could get up, get on the plane and go home. “I miss you so fucking much. I miss our babies.”
“They miss you too.” Jamia said placing her hand over her abdomen. Her hands felt a flurry of movement. “They’re restless tonight.”
“You’ve been under too much stress.” Frank worried.
“I’m just glad Mikey is here.” She admitted.
“So he still hasn’t come out and told you what’s wrong?”
“Nope, they’re still holed up in the bedroom. I’m guessing as tired as he looked when he got here that they’re both sleeping.”
“So you gotta sleep on the sofa?”
Jamia laughed, “Actually the sofa is more comfortable for me anymore. It’s easier for me to get up and down. Frank you’re not gonna believe how big I’ve gotten.”
“Can’t wait to see.” He said with a yawn. “Tonight’s show was fucking rad but I’m wiped out. We did two encores. The crowd was awesome.”
“And did my husband stay on the stage?”
“Yep, kept my feet planted on the stage. Shit, with Monica and Kara here I figured I better or they’d rat me out.”
“Ouch” Jamia muttered.
‘What? What’s wrong?” Frank, who had lain back on the bed sat up.
“One of the kids just kicked hard.”
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine, Frankie. Just go to sleep so you can come home.” She said softly.
“Love you.” He said with all his heart.
“I love you too.” She answered trying not to let another kick make her cry out again.
A few minutes later Jamia was still sitting on the sofa when Mikey walked out of the bedroom. She couldn’t read the look on his face. “Mikey?”
He moved slowly towards her. “Alicia and I talked. She wanted me to tell you what’s going on.”
Jamia patted the sofa next to her. He sat down and she waited while he gathered his thoughts. Finally he spoke. “Alicia and I are gonna have a baby.”
“What?” Jamia couldn’t believe her ears. “A baby? Why didn’t she tell me?”
He sighed, “Cause she’s afraid. Fuck, I’m afraid. The doctor told her that this pregnancy is high risk.”
“Why?”
“Because of all the problems she’s had in the past with her kidneys. From what she told me she’s already had some problems.”
Jamia reached out and took his hand, “She could lose the baby?” she whispered.
Mikey closed his eyes, “Yeah, she could lose the baby.”
Jamia had never seen him so upset. “Mikey?”
“She’s worried about losing the baby.” Mikey said slowly. “But I’m worried about losing her.”
