Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

Hmm, just to throw my interpretation out, it sounds like Dumbles, Molly, and Ginny plotted to marry her to Harry before the final battle and then, when Harry and Tom mutually took each other out, they'd split the Potter and Black fortunes. I presume Remus was in for something and attempted to control Harry's attitude and training such that it would be a mutual take-out and not a complete wipeout by a surviving Harry. Presumably, Harry found out about this and that generated the split before the big battle. With Neville alongside him, Harry went into the final battle and triumphed.Author's response

> 2. What is ‘wrong’ with Hermione?
> Nothing.
That's a lie!
> She is young, healthy and horny.
Yes, she is! But she should get what she needs from Harry. And she will get it from him!
> She has an itch and Ron scratches so very
> well.
Oh. You are so very wrong here. You are telling the story completely wrong.
Ron is unable to perform in bed, he never had sex with Hermione, he hasn't even seen her naked, because of his impotence, his 1.1 inch willy, and his homosexuality. Hermione is still a virgin!
> No potions, no compulsions, no blackmail.
Wrong. Ron is feeding her a day-dream-potion/love potion combination. All the sex Hermione thinks she gets is only a dream. And she dreams about Ron thanks to the love potion.
Ron used love potions to get Hermione just so that Harry can not have her and to get Harry together with Ginny (to get his money into the Weasley family). Because Ron is into the betrayal!
Ron don't even likes Hermione as a friend.
> She loves the big lug.
Yes. That is the reason, Hermione will get together with Harry. Because he has a working tool. Ron's thing is only an item on display. He doesn't even know how it works.
> Who would have guessed that Ron was
> good at something other than chess?
Nobody (not even Nobody himself)! Why? Because Ron isn't even that good at chess. Ron is in every way substandard. And he ever will be!Author's response
- you know, it's very subtle, but I think I might be detecting that you don't like Ron very much...Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

A nice chapter. It was slow moving but that fits in with the overall atmosphere and feel of this story, which (as far as I can tell) is about self-discovery rather than any particular chain of events. In that, the selection of Daphne for a partner (not necessarily romantic but certainly a closer and closer friend) is ideal. Like Harry, she was intended to be a role, not a person. Harry has broken away and is trying to find his own path - perhaps he can help Daphne do the same.
It would be nice if Hermione were to convince Ron to defy Molly and rediscover his friendship with Harry. Okay, angering Molly is a dangerous and frightening thing to do but, damn it, he is a Gryffindor, isn't he? ;-)
I also hope for Daphne to put on a public show in the Great Hall (something reminiscent of Pansy's show in Jeconais' White Knight, Grey Queen ). At the end of the show, Daphne turns to a bright purple Ginny and says: "That's what you threw away, Betrayer. Hurts when you realise that you can only blame yourself, doesn't it?"
Of course, that could lead to a Ginny/Draco team up (with Ginny in the lead, of course). When Molly finds out about /that/, our heroes need merely conjour some popcorn and enjoy the show.
I always look forward to seeing more of your stories.

- Slow is what I'm aiming for. I won't say there will be no action scenes, but what I'm looking to do is tell the story of a Harry who doesn't need to fight anymore. He's looking to expand his circle of friends so that a falling out with a manipulative bastard could never leave him high and dry again. (and maybe have a little fun that doesn't have much chance of landing him into Poppy's clutches)
- The Ron/Hermione dynamic is going to change soon
- I don't see a person as private as Daphne making a public display on any topic, much less love. I'm also not planning on taking their relationship that far anytime soon.
- Ginny is fairly inconsequential to the story now and will become completely inconsequential in a couple of chapters.
- Draco has been an ass for the entire series, but he hasn't really done anything that would cause him to deserve Ginny. Show some humanity!Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

Well I will freely admit that I was one of the ones who expected you to go with the cliches and have Hermione under a compulsion but I will also freely admit that I like the idea of it just being the choices people make. Ron chose family and Hermione chose Ron.
The obvious idea for Ginny was that she tried (and maybe succeeded) to bed Harry in order to get pregnant. She pushed him to change his will to name her and her family as his beneficiaries should he not survive the war. He got suspicious and things fell apart.
dumbles role is that he orchestrated the Weasley thing and led Ginny to believe that she was somehow entitled to Harry's money. It is all part of the magical bond between Harry and Ginny since he saved her life. Isn't it in Hindu culture that if you save someones life your become responsible for them for the rest of it?
Remus is even easier, in canon he is a fairly weak individual mired in self loathing. Dumbles tells him to stay away from baby Harry and he does. He does come closer when Sirius is free but when he dies Remus draws back again. In canon he denies himself happines all through DH. Even after he is married he pulls away from the ones who love him. Remus is the cliche of Harry in so many badly written fanfics.
I look forward to reading more of this story.

- Honestly, I might have if I hadn't already been there, and bought the t-shirt in Acts of Betrayal. I haven't had a 'good guy' Ron since Power He Has Not, so I thought he was due.
- As will be revealed, she was far too much of a cast iron bitch for that.
- Dumbles will be revealed as having orchestrated every single aspect of Harry's life, all toward forging the Weapon to self destruct against Voldemort taking him out in the shrapnel... And Remus helped. If Remus is feeling self loathing toward himself, there is good reason.Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

P.S. I also love the running gag idea. You could skewer just about every fanfic out there, good and bad, this way and have a grand time doing it. Don't forget to bring in the "I pulled down his pants and blew him away" from the HPLV fics when the twins ask him. And you could throw in a Scarface type "Say hello to my little friend" bit as well.

- I'm going to try and work it in. Re: the scarface gag... Fun for the readers, but Dumbles wouldn't get it.Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

I find it interesting (and somewhat refreshing) that Ron is not a bad guy in this story in anyway in regards to Harry's falling out with his family. I have been reading some of the theories regarding the cause of the falling out and I find them all interesting.
My best guess with the Weasley's is that they were used to mold Harry in a certain way and their efforts failed. My guess is that Harry caught wind of this manipulation (it's possible that something Ginny did was the straw that broke the camel's back) and confronted them on what happened.
I do look forward to Harry rejecting Ginny, though. It is my hope that this rejection occurs in a very public and humiliating fashion. I want to see the bitch humiliated for breaking up The Trio.
I am glad that Snape is dead. My only two complaints about how he died is that Harry didn't get to lay the killing blow directly and that his death was not agonizing enough. While having his life force and majic drained out of him via his mark by an expiring Voldemort must be unpleasant, his death could have been made a lot worse. If anyone deserves a slow, agonizing drawn out death it is Snivellous.Author's response
- I've whaled on Ron in too many of my fics recently. It was time for him to not be evil. Which isn't to say he won't be an ass...
- Pretty much.
- Harry intends to be a gentleman about it as he assured Fred... Of course Ginny does tend to be a psychotic little bitch at times...
- In the original intent where I wasn't going to discuss the final battle and didn't want to explain the falling out, I didn't want to have to deal with Snape to conflict with Harry's new and improved mellow just enjoying life world view. If I had anticipated the demands for the back story I might have kept him around, though I don't know how because having the Mark deal with the remaining DEs was/is a fairly major plot point...Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

- You're very close, but thinking in too small a time scale.
Perhaps this is something that Dumbles planned from the time he heard the prophecy and the shaping of Harry's personality at the Dursley's et al. was part of an effort to condition him to be, and do, what Dumbles wanted and then die? I could see where he could've brought Remus in early, with suitable promises, and had him contribute to the effort in a way that seems natural. I do see where some of the points that BJH raised certainly fit in with all of this.Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

Hi, Clell,
Your acknowledgment was very generous; seeing a suggestion 'in print' was quite gratifying by itself.
Anyway, a nice chapter in a good story--I don't have a lot to say; I agree with the reviewers above... (even the subtle Ron-bashing one. I still think that it's a little OOC for Ron and Hermione to let Ginny and Molly's bitching keep them away from Harry, but as I said before, I'm willing to accept that as part of you taking Harry in the direction you want.)
I felt a little foolish about my suggestions for a Hogsmeade date after I posted them; you had made it pretty clear that the 2nd date wasn't really heading there.... ah well, I'll enjoy reading about it when it comes.
cheers-

Thanks for the explination. I have seen lately so many Hermione and/or harry gets potioned etc... so it threw me that Hermione's hormones kicked in when they did.
As for the fic, very iC in the sense of a Slytherin girl NOT connected to DE's going about while harry sees whom or who he wasts to date and not be serious with. That alone is good as most take the pairing from date to bed so seriously. I hoe this takes it time to develop and that he dates more than one girl (NOT a harem) til he decides who he likes.

- Watching the silliness my daughter's girlfriends get up to with their significant others inspired it. Otherwise intelligent girls with complete idiots. My Daughter of course isn't allowed to date until she's old enough. I'm thinking 35.
- Everyone seems to expect Harry to propose and hop into bed with Daphne and several other girls (at the same time). He's 17. He's dating. Life Partners can come later.Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

Still liking it. The gradual uncovering of events in the past really good. Looking forward to knowing what the weasleys and dumbles really did.
