sad about letter from Daphne, hope its dad influensedHarry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

I have one thing to say. I think that Daphne's letter to Harry breaking up with him was forced considering what she said before they separated in Hogsmeade station. If her father (keep in mind that there is a possibility, however remote, that he is not behind this) then he deserves to die (or at the very least get an extremely thorough ass-kicking and pounding). He should have left things alone.
One thing this update has done is make my urgently look forward to the next update. I don't like seeing how things ended here and I want to find out what happens next.Author's response
- yes he should have, but recall there are ways to hurt someone without becoming violent...Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

So now we have what Remus did, and a bit of what DD did. But what's up with Daphne? Sorry but I don't buy that she decided to go elsewhere. Was her father so unhappy with Harry cancelling the contract, even though he seemed likely to get all the benefits anyway, that he would force her to do this, either emotional blackmail or magical compulsion? Again, I don't think so.
I think DD put the whammy on the Greenglass's one way or another. The only way to begin to make his schemes work out the way he planned, as far as possible anyway, is to break Harry and Daphne up. That makes sense.
The only other thing I can think of is that Molly has already shown that she is adept at attraction potions so I would assume she has equal skill in repulsion.
Either way, when Daphne regains her senses, with help from Hannah and Hermione, and learns the truth, I almost pity the people responsible.
BJHAuthor's response
- This is going to spoil a plot point, but... Harry and Daphne marrying without the contract wouldn't do the same thing... Certain business units wouldn't be formed, things like a 'bride price' wouldn't be paid... Like that.
- Daphne is not being blackmailed or compelled. Think about it, She IS British, with all that entails... Think Gilbert and Sullivan...
- Neither Dumbles or Molly have anything to do with this.
- Which isn't to say that they aren't enjoying it.Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

You know, I was thinking about this some more and I was wondering what is motivating DD to be pushing so hard to get Harry back even after V is gone. It could be that DD wants the limelight back but it is already too late to get credit for offing V. And simple curiousity about how it was done isn't making it either.
I recall you had the Goblins mention that there were a number of financial irregularities in Harry's accounts. That was an awful big turd to drop on the rug if you weren't going to do anything with it. I think DD is desperate. He needs to get Harry back under his thumb now that he didn't die killing off V. And I think the reason he is this desperate is not that he is a glory hound but simply that he wants to keep his own pink plump rump out of the wringer.
BJHAuthor's response
- Dumbles is a world class control freak, and the fact that he doesn't know what happened it driving him somewhat mad.
- The financial irregularitites will be addressed... (I hope, I'm having trouble with that scene.)Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

Nice chapter, specially the ending. And I for one am happy the way things have turned out specially if you can come up with some reason which is not potions/spell from her father. Maybe like Ron she was asked to chose between family and Harry.
This gives a good opportunity to help Harry onto new dating horizons. I think Susan is still free. And Hermione is always there, just the Justin interruption.
Update soon.Author's response
- No spells, no potions.Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

Good chapter, but, I really don't buy Harry's reaction to the Dear John letter; he has matured a lot, and, at the very least want to find out more of what happened. I agree with one of the other reviewers about contacting Tracey and pulling a raid/rescue of the Greengrass estates.
redAuthor's response
- Give the kid a break, given the life he's led, it's amazing he has any self worth at all. As I see him, the blind acceptance of the Dear John letter is completely in character. He's only been a free man for seven months of his live at this point. Probably his gut reaction to the letter was wondering why she stayed with him as long as she did...Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

Okay, none of us buy Daphne's letter as genuine -- I would hope it isn't. If it's not, then someone will be in pain soon. If it is, are you trying to bring Harry & Hermione together?Author's response
- It is, but it isn't.
- Harry's in pain now, he may share it a bit...
- No, no Harry/Hermione romance (in this fic)Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

ok that ending was supremely odd. After what she said departing, the time they spent together, and the behavior of the house elves, he's not even slightly suspicious? This is someone who is renown for putting together small clues and intuitive reasoning, and he blandly accepts a vague dear john letter? Disappointing.Author's response
- He's devestated, and surprised how long it took for Daphne to decide to leave him.
- Think about Harry's life for a moment, is it really all that surprising that he would quietly accept that someone didn't want him?
- Yes, Harry does puzzle things through, but not things about himself. He was imprinted with his supposed worthlessness very early, the seven months of freedom he's had since the fall of Tommy isn't going to have changed that.Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

I can't see Daph doing this! I think her father is behind the break-up and I'm sure they have enough $$$$ to hire an obliviator and/or simply closing off the world from Daphne.
I think Harry's gonna go Pureblood hunting and I see a very painful future for a certain father.
Also Where is Susan in all this?
BTW great wok with Hermione and Justin!Author's response
- She did, he is, and no obliviations were used.
- Well, an embarrassingly expensive future anyway.
- Probably helping Hannah plan her wedding.
- Thanks.
