Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

I do like this story, great way for Harry to save Daphne from this marriage and the aftermath of it. and Moody taking care of Cyrus was and i agree with one of that reviewers, was done with style.
I'm curious of what the aftermath's going to be. it's going to spread to the students at Hogwarts what's going to happen. and of course it's going to be interesting to hear their reactions
Another thing i'm curious is Hermione meeting Justin's family. and her reaction that Justin is loaded. and of course Harry's reaction when Hermione tells him. and of course her finding out about this. (of course that would mean a trip to the library for her when she finds out) great chapter. keep it upAuthor's response
- Staging a murder does require a bit of finesse...
- Chapter 12 was all in a single day. As my current outline sits, Chapter 13 is mostly the next day, when Harry and Daphne learn to deal with each other, and decide what they're going to do. The reaction at Hogwarts will probably start in chapter 14.
- Hermione and Justin's relationship will be explored a bit more, probably starting in 14...Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

A bit of a sappy story with but thoroughly enjoyable. Is Dumbledore (and your readers along with him) ever going to find out how Harry defeated Voldemort? If yes, don't make it too easy ;)Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

good story so far, even if it has turned a little dark, but thats ok. I hope to see that this isn't the end of the story, as I am interested in seeing where the story takes us.Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

Interesting chapter, with some good action. But I find it a bit off the wall. Even if Harry could con the Goblins, I find it difficult to see how he could have gotten away with his charade. Perhaps the only thing that makes it sort of work is the death of the Romanian count. That would pretty much obviate the contract he signed. Remember we're dealing with the magical world. This isn't just a matter of predating contracts and deposits. The contract with the count would have carried magical obligations (remember Snape's vow). It should've been obvious that Daphne was not already married when given to the Count. And as to spoofing the Book of Records. I imagine that would require some powerful magic -- and the assumption that nobody looked at it before. It's presence at the reading of the Banns implies it plays a role in the ceremony (Record books are stored in Archives or Records offices not judicial or legislative chambers). Wouldn't somebody then notice it had been changed? Or Harry could've sat back until there was a hubbub when it was noticed that Daphne was already married. Anyway it was pretty exciting and a fun read.Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

Hey, don't downgrade yourself.
I like the Daphne saving by goblin help means.

A fitting end to those bastards, and I find it satisfying how Moody handled the Greengrass Jerk.
How will the rest of the school handle this and we'll we see Neville also take a Slytherin wife(Tracy!)?
BTW, plausible and accepting BF for Hermione!

::snicker:: 'Tis a good thing that Harry's on very good terms with the Goblins, that's the only way he could have so plausibly carried this off with style, and he did establish a definite style there that's going to have the more thoughtful folk considering matters most thoroughly and carefully. I'm rather amused that the Count's demise was almost an afterthought, more the result of his own stupidity (I mean, really, tryly a simple sneak attack on the Man who trounced Voldemort and dealt with the Death Eaters? That's an easy to get yourself killed, even if he's not really trying to). As to Cyrus, if Alastor hadn't dealt with him I rather suspect he'd not have survived too long with former friends turning on him and a daughter wishing his demise' as 'tis, I wonder how many are going to try and pin it on Harry? The next few chapters should be interesting as harry & Daphne work out their new relationship and then have to deal with the various reactions at Hogwarts and elsewhere to what happened. ::Smile:: When Harry starts his crusade, I rather imagine that Justin & Hermione will back him as well as the House of Longbottom and several like-minded Houses.Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

Wow. Great story. From experience, I can assure you that a spider's bite is totally disabling. All I could think of was removing it some way, any way, even to the point of limb loss. I guess I got lucky since I treated it like a snake bite and lanced it and applied suction within a minute. I must have sucked a pint of blood out of my arm before I stopped. Apparently I got enough of the venom out but had a 2" deep sore that took about 2.5 months to heal. Still itches and burns after 40+ years. Don't let anyone tell you different, a spider bite is extremely painful and very dangerous, even life threatening.
The story is great. I have been waiting for another chapter for too long. I hope you continue this so we can see the aftereffects.Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

Thank you for your reasoned explanation. I'm not a huge fan of your story, but that's only because it's Harry centric than Hermione centric. You do treat her with respect, which is why I haven't given up on this.
So... thinking of it as a Harry story, I'm glad he resorted to trickery and outright bluffing rather than superpowers. That said, this is still a superHarry fic; though kudos to you for attempting to keep it real. Or real-er :)
Your author's note was really quite good.
Is Harry going to ask Daphne for permission to court her in private or something of that ilk?Author's response
- Being male, I don't really have the insight needed to write in a woman's voice without sounding like an idiot. The few times I've done it, it was arduous and the result, even after almost a dozen drafts, read very stilted. In short, I know what's creeping around in the darkest parts of a young man's mind, but the mind of a woman at any age is totally alien to me.
- I was trying something new. I've read politicalGenius!Harry resolutions, SUPERDUPER!Harry resolutions, and even Dark!Harry resolutions. I don't recall ever reading a lyingbastard!Harry, so, why not?
- My first love is History, most of my situations come from history.
- Pretty much, yes. While they are 'officially' married, they aren't in his head... Though they are in Daphne's. Bear in mind the culture she comes from.
- I am fortunate enough to have a co-worker who is in a contracted marriage. She met her husband on her wedding day, and had her first conversation with him after they consummated their marriage. She had just finished her degree, and was deeply in love with a former classmate.
- She tells me that while her first encounter with her husband wasn't exactly consensual, she didn't (and doesn't twenty odd years later) doesn't consider it to be rape due to her cultural expectations...
- I'm wondering how many people that would (will?) piss off...
