Well done. I quite enjoyed all the character interactions.
And thanks for giving Granger the clue-bat she so desperately needed.Author's response

I, er, had fun on your date... right up to the end, actually. Harry shouldn't give a crap about what Tracey thinks, and what is this 'baggage' of which you speak? Rather, what baggage that won't be there in a week or in a month, or whenever.
I can understand Harry not wanting to rush it (are they both virgins?), but that's not what he said. The Harry in my head goes into her room, and does some serious snogging and some light petting before deciding that he doesn't want to go so far so fast that the relationship doesn't get real roots.
Well... that was easier than talking about what I really did like, which was just about everything. Nev's a good friend.
My next unlikely Voldy death--Harry got a dementor to kiss his scar. (Of course, now he has a link with them.)
Peace-

- Excepting of course the knowledge that Daphne and Tracey are a package deal. If he wants to make an attempt at a real relationship, what Tracey thinks matters quite a bit.
- What baggage? Well, Daphne is Buzzing. He's shown her one of the better times of her life, apparated her from one side of the country to another, gotten a few drinks into her and she's frisky. How will she feel about that in the morning? That is the baggage that might be there if they decide to make a go of it.
- Harry is. Daphne probably is. The Harry in my head isn't going to start anything he isn't sure he wants to finish.
- Nev's an all around good guy.Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

See? This is the potential I always knew Neville had. To show a little backbone. I love the way you've written him.
Hermione has always been smart, but never all that tactful when it comes to other people's feelings. I still wonder if the whole thing with Ginny is going on because Hermione and Ron are simply too chicken to stand up to his mother. They're adults and can't be friends because of what? It's silly.
And Daphne...well, I might have acted rashly if I'd had her date. LOL Will the time she's spent with Harry make her fall hard or will Tracey snap her out of it like a daydream?Author's response
- I always try to write a strong Neville... Usually after tying him to a Hufflepuff...
- Pretty much. As I see it, they're adults, but don't believe it yet.
- Now that would be telling...Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

First things first:
I'm enjoying this very much so far. Very few stories featuring Daphne out there (if they are, she's usually one of many). Interesting setup you got going here. Looking forward to reading more of it ...
"She's turning out to be quite an engaging character. My plan was/is to have Harry dating several girls, but it will be very hard leaving Daphne..."
Please be kidding! Daphne made such a nice change to all the usual pairings you get to read.
"I may have to reconsider."
Please do!
;-)
No, you do whatever you wanna do with your story ... might even be better than sticking with Daphne. But I've come to like reading about her and 'getting to know' a character there's very little information on.
Waiting for the next chapter ...

I loved this chapter.
The whole idea of Harry introducing a wizarding girl to the muggle world is an interesting counterpart to the common 'Hermione introduces Harry to the Muggle world' plot used in a lot of H/Hr stories. I loved Daphne's reaction to consumer society and the hints of the world beyond Britain. Now... when she gets back, will the rumours of a terrible Muggle secret weapon (the Death Star's superlaser) start circulating in pureblood society? ;-)
I do get the impression that British wizarding society not isolates itself from the muggle world, it also isolates itself from other parts of the magical world. This means that Daphne probably has never encountered foreign cultures, making someting as pedestrian as pizza seem like an exotic delight.
I'm enjoying Harry/Daphne and the two characters do seem to be fitting together well. Even if you don't want to stick with this ship for the whole story, I think that the two of them may continue to date on-and-off for the rest of the year - they seem to be developing too much momentum to drop.
From a characterisation point of view, irrespective of her feelings, Daphne's Slytherin training will say to her: "Harry - magically powerful, politically influential and wealthy in the magical and muggle worlds. Just imagine my power as Lady Potter-Black!" She would want to have a relationship on an intellectual level, no matter what she feels about him. It might be fun to watch her try to frighten off Harry's other dates. This could lead to a kind of social warfare between the cliques of the most powerful pureblood women in seventh year (centred on Daphne, Susan and possibly the Patil twins).
The bit with Hermione was actually the highlight of the chapter. In canon, Hermione, for such a knowledgable girl, is remarkably stupid sometimes. This is especially the case when trying to evaluate her own actions and their consequences. It is good to see her being forced to realise that the world will not conform itself to her convenience.
I like matured!Neville too. He is the one who would have worked the best as Harry's Paladin. It is Ron, not he, who should have been the laughingstock of Gryffindor's Class of '98.
This is a great story and I'm looking forward to more of this and 'Betrayal'.
BenRG's Rating: 8/10Author's response
- Harry made sure Daphne understood the concept of fiction before showing her the movie... Besides, a weapon that blows up the Earth would be a bit inconvenient when that's the only planet you've got.
- Especially when you consider that modern Pizza (especially that from a chain restaurant) has little to do with Italy, but is a Yank invention (based on a regional Italian dish)
- Your 'war' between the ladies is an interesting possibility, not one that I'd have thought of, but now that you've suggested it, I might use... I'll have to see what happens.
- Hermione has some growing up to do. future chapter will shock her badly, not once, but at least twice...
- The problem of having Neville as Harry's right hand is that it's more than a little possible for Nev to have over shadowed Harry in short order. Then the 7th book might have ended up as Neville Longbottom And 'Harry hold my cloak, Voldemort's pissed me off for the last time.'
- or not.Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

Very nice chapter, we get to see the kind of reactions a pureblood raised in the wizarding world whe they are thrust in the muggle world. Even Arthur Weasley, supposed muggle-lover tends to thing of them as particularly smart animals.
I do hope that Harry does date several girls, not because I dislike Daphne but he is a 17 years old. He's going to want different experiences.Author's response
- As some point the Pure Bloods are going to have to have a reality check...
- There will be other girls, I promise.Harry Potter and the Marriage Contracts

Like others, I think it was fun to see the stick partially removed from Hermione's butt. Will Hermione change or decide she made the right decision? If she changes, will she convince Ron to do the same?
Looking forward to the next update on most of your fic
"T"Author's response
- Hermione and Ron will have other things to think about relatively soon.
