Harry Potter and Merlin's Reaper

I daresay that's not an easy decision for Harry, but it's one I can see him making. In some ways, it's not that different from Horatius at the Bridge or the captain of the US submarine in the Pacific in WW II that ordered his sub to submerge under attack, even though he was wounded and trapped on the exposed bridge. It's a poignant and painful one, but I can see where the alternatives would be considered worse by the one making the decisions.
Bravo for another excellent chapter.Author's response

Dear Lord what a crap world they live in!
Poor, dumb Harry, standing up to take the bullet, **hugs his stoopid hero complex head and poor Susan's "I love him" sadness***
And honestly, the scene between William and Hermione brought tears to my eyes. I'm afraid she's going to throw herself on the sword for Harry and Susan and their child, as well as for William.
Poor Babies!!Author's response
- All too true.
- Harry's noble, as personality flaws go it's a good one. Susans life has taught her that nothing lasts, but she's holding on for dear life.
- I thought Hermione, who has suffered so much at the hands of violent men could find herself in the arms of a nonviolent man.Harry Potter and Merlin's Reaper

Hmm, it just occurred to me that, in a way, Harry's attitude is quite reminiscent of the last verse to "The Star-Spangled Banner", "Oh thus be it 'ere, When free men shall stand, Between their loved homes, And war's desolation...". ISTR that RAH used that second line as the title of a story.Harry Potter and Merlin's Reaper

Very interesting update. I like the complications associated with their weapon, particularly what it might mean for Harry. It adds a layer of desperation to the whole thing.Harry Potter and Merlin's Reaper

An interesting if (forgive the term)draconian solution
"T"Author's response
- no need to forgive, Draconian was what I was after. "Greater Love Hath No Man" and all that.Harry Potter and Merlin's Reaper

Good to see Merlin's Reaper back. The Harry you've envisioned still has the ability to make the tough choices. Now the question becomes, who is the more powerful mage? The more powerful one survives the bio-weapon (with his or her magic intact?) So the winner will be -- Harry's unborn child!
He or she will be the only magical human left.
In the land of the blind, a one-eyed man is king. . .
Write on, write on!
N!Author's response
- I think I'll be able to finish it with a minimum of delay
- It might well be a tie... And of course the bio weapon might not work at all outside the lab...Harry Potter and Merlin's Reaper

Eh, i think i see the snag here. Either Harry can't get infected, but that's unlikely, due to the description of the disease, or he would only be able to infect himself, or possibly his child, or, if Voldie gets tagged first, tagging Harry will be an antidote.
Possibly, though, it will make Harry the only magic-user in the world, and he will have to repopulate the sub-species under the watchful eyes of the Muggle world. Stud-duty?
I know how annoying and inspiring it is when reviewers beg, so just consider the begging done.

- Close, but no, that's not how it's going to happen... I'm thinking 2-3 chapters left.Harry Potter and Merlin's Reaper

I think Merlin, Order and Chaos need their pompous heads banged together!
How is this, in any way, a reward or relief from what Harry experienced in his original time line?
An excellent story, but so dark and sad. I'm in need of a hot bath and a razor....Author's response
- It isn't. To them, Harry is a tool, nothing more, nothing else. He was at least given the opportunity to turn down the mission, in truth they gave him his truest wish, a chance to kill more death eaters, which he has done. He has also regained the humanity he lost in his original world, gained a woman who loves him to love and the possibility of a child.
- If you think reading it is dark and sad, try writing it. I'm appalled at the sickness of my imagination. You wouldn't believe the dark horror of the chapters I've culled for being far too sick.Harry Potter and Merlin's Reaper
